Subaru of America, Inc. introduces the 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness, the most rugged and capable version of the Forester lineup. Designed for off-road enthusiasts, this model features 9.3 inches of ground clearance, an upgraded Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, and an enhanced X-MODE® Dual Mode system for improved off-road capability. The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness is set to arrive at dealerships across the U.S. in fall 2025.

Equipped with a 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine, the 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness delivers 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque with improved low-end responsiveness. The revised Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) features a shorter final drive ratio, enhancing off-road capability and low-speed performance. The X-MODE® Dual Mode system, with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, provides additional traction in challenging terrains.

The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness rides on Yokohama Geolandar® all-terrain tires, mounted on exclusive 17-inch anthracite alloy wheels, designed for better grip on gravel and muddy roads. The updated Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system reduces wheelspin and offers improved stability during high-speed cornering. A reinforced transmission cooler increases towing capacity to 3,500 pounds, while a rear differential temperature sensor enhances trail performance.

Off-road capability is further improved with increased approach, breakover, and departure angles. The approach angle is now 23.5 degrees (previously 19 degrees), ramp breakover angle is 21 degrees (up from 19.6 degrees), and departure angle improves to 25.5 degrees (from 24.6 degrees).
