About the Car

2025 Wuling Zhiguang EV

The Chinese homologation process unveiled the Wuling Zhiguang EV, an electric kei car developed by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. With a 3685 mm length, it accommodates four passengers and is powered by a single e-motor producing 30 kW (40 hp). A larger counterpart to the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, Wuling ranks as the third most popular domestic car brand in China, following BYD and Geely.

Between January and September 2024, its sales reached 582,656 units. Known for affordable electric models like the Hongguang Mini EV, Wuling is poised to release this innovative vehicle, which was spotted earlier in road tests in China. SGMW’s brand and communication GM highlighted its potential in the Chinese market.

  • Powered by a 30 kW (40 hp) electric motor, the Zhiguang EV shares its powertrain with the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.
  • Although styled like a traditional Japanese kei car, it exceeds kei car size regulations, measuring 3685/1530/1750 mm with a 2600 mm wheelbase.
  • The vehicle's compact bumpers and lightweight structure provide minimal front and rear overhangs, with curb weight set at 892 kg and gross weight reaching 1220 kg.

Design and Dimensions

The Wuling Zhiguang EV exhibits a design reminiscent of Japanese kei cars, featuring a high beltline, flat roofline, rear sliding doors, and a short bonnet. However, it does not qualify as a true kei car by Japanese standards, which require vehicles to be under 3.4 meters in length and 1.48 meters in width. The Zhiguang EV, at 3685/1530/1750 mm with a 2600 mm wheelbase, surpasses these dimensions.

With compact bumpers, the Zhiguang EV boasts minimal front and rear overhangs of 579 mm and 506 mm, respectively. Its approach and departure angles are 24 and 38 degrees, riding on 165/65 R13 wheels. The EV’s lightweight design gives it a curb weight of 892 kg—193 kg lighter than the Smart Fortwo EQ—while its gross weight is 1220 kg. Inside, it offers seating for four.

Wuling Zhiguang EV Powertrain and Specifications

The Zhiguang EV is equipped with an LFP battery supplied by Gotion or RSPK, although its capacity remains undisclosed. It employs a single TZ155XZ230 electric motor mounted on the rear axle, delivering 30 kW (40 hp)—the same motor used in the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Details regarding its acceleration and top speed are yet to be specified.

While specifics about the interior and pricing are not yet available, SGMW has suggested the Zhiguang EV’s versatility for both private and commercial use in China. Expected to be priced slightly above the Hongguang Mini EV, its range currently spans from 32,800 to 99,900 yuan (4,600 to 14,000 USD).
