2025 Kia PV5 Concept: A Versatile Modular EV for Business and Mobility

Kia introduced the 2025 Kia PV5 Concept at the 2025 Kia EV Day in Tarragona, Spain. This mid-sized Car Derived Van (CDV) is the first production model under Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy. Designed for flexibility, the PV5 offers modular customization to meet various commercial and personal needs.

The PV5 is available in three configurations: Passenger, Cargo, and Chassis Cab. Like future Kia PBV models, it utilizes the E-GMP.S platform, a dedicated battery-electric skateboard architecture, allowing seamless integration of multiple body types. This modular approach ensures cost efficiency and scalability.

Kia PV5 and the E-GMP.S Platform

Kia’s E-GMP.S platform is an evolution of the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), tailored specifically for PBV business applications. It employs Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA), which standardizes essential components like batteries and motors, streamlining development while reducing costs.

The platform’s skateboard design supports multiple body configurations, enabling Kia PBV models to cater to diverse commercial segments. The Flexible Body System further enhances adaptability, offering both standard models—Passenger, Cargo, Chassis Cab, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), and Family—and conversion models such as Crew, Drop Side, Box Van, Freezer Box, Prime, and Light Camper.

  • The 2025 Kia PV5 Concept is a modular electric commercial vehicle built on Kia’s E-GMP.S platform, designed for business and mobility applications.
  • Available in Passenger, Cargo, and Chassis Cab configurations, with additional conversion models for ride-hailing, delivery, and specialized industries.
  • The E-GMP.S platform is an evolution of Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), optimizing cost efficiency and scalability for commercial electric vehicles.
  • The PV5 Cargo variant offers 5.1 m³ cargo capacity, accommodating two Euro pallets, with a Walk-Through option for improved accessibility.
  • The PV5 Passenger variant supports ride-hailing and fleet operations, featuring a three-row seating layout with adaptable storage solutions.
  • The PV5 Chassis Cab serves as a foundation for custom commercial vehicle conversions, including Drop Side, Freezer Box, and Box Van models.
  • The Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) model features a side-entry ramp, wheelchair belt system, and adaptable third-row seating.
  • Battery options include 51.5 kWh and 71.2 kWh NCM packs (offering up to 400 km range) and a 43.3 kWh LFP option for the PV5 Cargo variant.
  • Equipped with a 120 kW front motor producing 250 Nm torque, the PV5 supports fast charging from 10-80% in 30 minutes.
  • The PV5’s design emphasizes durability and functionality, featuring modular bumpers, black geometric wheel arches, and sustainable interior materials.

Advanced Electrification and Manufacturing Innovations

Kia integrates EV technology from its passenger lineup into the PV5, optimizing efficiency and productivity. The EVO Plant, a dedicated PBV manufacturing facility, employs flexible production techniques for efficiency. Additionally, Kia’s conversion center will streamline custom vehicle production, reducing lead times and ensuring factory-backed quality.

By partnering with conversion specialists like BraunAbility and software companies such as 42dot and Samsung Electronics, Kia enhances PBV usability with predictive maintenance services and data-driven operational insights.

Smart Connectivity and Business Integration

The PV5 features an Android Automotive OS (AAOS)-based infotainment system, enhancing app integration for commercial partners. Kia is also extending its PBV business platform through collaborations with Samsung’s SmartThings Pro, creating a connected vehicle experience that integrates with workplace IoT ecosystems.

PV5 Passenger: Adaptive and Versatile

The PV5 Passenger variant is designed for both personal and commercial applications. Its three-row seat configuration offers multiple layout options. The 2-3-0 configuration prioritizes cargo space, featuring a bottom luggage tray and side storage compartments. The 1-2-3 layout introduces a multi-storage area beside the driver, adding convenience for businesses and fleet operators.

Kia collaborated with Uber during development to refine usability for ride-hailing applications. The PV5 aligns with Uber’s service categories, making it suitable for multiple transportation needs.

PV5 Cargo: Optimized for Commercial Efficiency

The PV5 Cargo is available in Standard, Long, and High-Roof configurations, with a Walk-Through variant for enhanced accessibility. It offers a 5.1 m³ cargo capacity, accommodating two Euro pallets with a low step height of 419mm for easier loading.

The Walk-Through variant includes a sinking passenger seat and sliding door partition, enabling seamless movement between the cabin and cargo area. The optional L-track mounting system provides customizable cargo securing solutions, while V2L functionality supports on-the-go power needs.

Fleet operators benefit from real-time data insights, enabling predictive maintenance, optimizing efficiency, and minimizing downtime. Kia’s partnerships with fleet management service providers ensure data-driven business solutions.

PV5 Chassis Cab: A Platform for Custom Conversions

The PV5 Chassis Cab serves as a flexible foundation for specialized applications. Featuring a flat rear structure with integrated side collision protection, it supports diverse modifications like Drop Side, Freezer Box, and Box Van models. The 4,525mm length allows extensive customization potential for various industries.

As part of Kia’s E-GMP.S platform, the PV5 Crew conversion model introduces factory-backed cargo securing solutions, previously available only through aftermarket modifications. Kia is expanding conversion options, including camping and premium models for private users.

PV5 WAV: Enhancing Accessibility

The PV5 WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) is engineered for inclusivity. Featuring a side-entry design, it ensures universal access for both wheelchair users and general passengers. A quick-use ramp supports up to 300 kg, while a secure wheelchair belt system and third-row tip-up seat improve convenience.

Kia is committed to expanding PBV accessibility solutions, collaborating with global conversion partners to enhance mobility freedom for individuals with disabilities.

Powertrain and Battery Options

The Kia PV5 offers three battery configurations:

  • 51.5 kWh NCM

  • 71.2 kWh NCM (up to 400 km range)

  • 43.3 kWh LFP (available for PV5 Cargo)

Equipped with a 120 kW front motor delivering 250 Nm of torque, the PV5 features a cell-to-pack battery system, eliminating modules for improved energy efficiency. Fast charging replenishes 10-80% capacity in just 30 minutes.

Kia PV5 Design: Functionality Meets Innovation

Inspired by Kia’s Opposites United philosophy, the PV5 combines a sleek upper body with a rugged lower section. Integrated signature lighting enhances visibility, while black geometric wheel arches and modular bumpers provide durability and aesthetic appeal.

Safety is prioritized with optimized forward and side visibility, refined cowl points, and ergonomic beltline heights. The PV5 also incorporates durable, sustainable materials inside the cabin, featuring bold color options such as Deep Navy, Dove Gray, and Iceberg Green.
