About the Car

2025 Honda 0 Saloon Concept

Honda introduced its 0 Series lineup at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), showcasing the Honda 0 SUV and the Honda 0 Saloon prototypes. These battery electric vehicles mark the beginning of a new era for Honda, with production models planned for North American release in 2026, followed by global markets.

In tandem with these unveilings, Honda revealed its proprietary ASIMO Operating System (OS), inspired by the iconic ASIMO robot. The system reflects Honda’s dedication to integrating advanced robotics and AI technologies into next-generation electric vehicles. The company also announced a collaboration with Renesas Electronics Corporation to develop a cutting-edge system-on-chip (SoC) for future 0 Series models. Additionally, Honda introduced a Home Energy Management System aimed at providing a sustainable and user-friendly EV ownership experience.

Honda 0 Saloon Prototype

The Honda 0 Saloon represents the flagship model of the 0 Series and builds on the concept introduced at CES 2024. Featuring a “Thin, Light, and Wise” development approach, this prototype combines bold exterior styling with a low-profile, wedge-shaped design that distinguishes it in the EV market. Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the interior offers unexpected spaciousness, adding to its appeal.

  • Introduction of the Honda 0 Series: Honda showcased the Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon prototypes at CES 2025, marking the debut of its new battery-electric vehicle lineup with production set to start in North America by 2026 and expand globally.

  • Honda 0 Saloon Concept: The Honda 0 Saloon concept builds on the "Thin, Light, and Wise" design philosophy, featuring low-height, wedge-shaped styling and a spacious cabin relative to its exterior dimensions.

  • ASIMO OS Integration: Honda introduced the ASIMO Operating System, drawing from its robotics expertise, to provide adaptive software-defined vehicles (SDVs) with features like advanced driver assistance and personalized digital experiences.

  • Advanced Automated Driving Features: Honda plans to expand Level 3 automated driving capabilities, incorporating AI technologies and behavior modeling to handle complex driving scenarios and enhance driver safety.

  • Centralized E/E Architecture Development: Honda, in partnership with Renesas Electronics, is developing a high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) for next-generation vehicles, enabling centralized control of various systems with increased processing efficiency.

  • Energy Services and Charging Infrastructure: Honda is working to establish a robust charging network, including over 100,000 charging stations by 2030, and provide smart home energy management solutions through partnerships and innovative technologies.

  • Vehicle Grid Integration: Honda 0 Series models will integrate Vehicle-to-Grid (VGI) systems, optimizing charging schedules to reduce electricity costs and support renewable energy usage.

  • Global Accessibility Plans: The production version of the Honda 0 Saloon is scheduled to launch first in North America, followed by Japan and Europe, ensuring availability in multiple markets.

  • Sustainability Goals: Honda aims for carbon neutrality by utilizing renewable energy sources, adopting efficient EV charging systems, and implementing virtual power plants with its vehicle fleet.

  • Technology Evolution: Honda is committed to continuous innovation in robotics and automotive technologies, ensuring that its vehicles offer advanced automated driving, high-efficiency AI systems, and a connected mobility experience.

Technological highlights of the Honda 0 Saloon include advanced automated driving capabilities based on Honda's Level 3 system and “ultra-personal optimization” through the ASIMO OS. This system customizes the vehicle's mobility experience to suit individual users. Production is slated to begin in Ohio, with the North American launch scheduled for late 2026, followed by introductions in Japan and Europe.

ASIMO Operating System (OS)

The ASIMO OS is a pivotal feature of Honda’s 0 Series vehicles, ensuring seamless integration of advanced robotics and vehicle intelligence. Drawing from decades of robotics research, including the development of the ASIMO humanoid robot, the OS manages critical vehicle systems such as automated driving and infotainment.

This system enables continuous over-the-air (OTA) updates, enhancing functionality and services after the vehicle’s purchase. These updates cater to individual user preferences, offering a personalized and dynamic ownership experience. All Honda 0 Series models, including production versions of the 0 Saloon and 0 SUV, will be equipped with the ASIMO OS.

Automated Driving Technologies

Honda continues to lead in automated driving innovation. In 2021, the company introduced the Honda Legend with Level 3 automated driving capabilities, allowing for “eyes-off” driving under specific conditions. Building on this foundation, Honda plans to expand its automated driving features with the 0 Series.

By incorporating AI technologies and behavioral models, the system aims to handle complex scenarios with precision. OTA updates will further enhance automated driving features, beginning with traffic congestion scenarios and progressing to broader driving conditions. These advancements are designed to improve safety and expand mobility options for users.

High-Performance System-on-Chip (SoC) Development

Honda and Renesas Electronics are collaborating to develop a high-performance SoC for the 0 Series, utilizing multi-die chiplet technology. This system integrates Renesas’ Gen 5 R-Car X5 series with Honda’s AI accelerator, achieving exceptional AI performance and energy efficiency.

The centralized electrical/electronic (E/E) architecture of the 0 Series combines various control functions into a single core ECU, optimizing powertrain management, automated driving, and comfort features. This innovative approach positions Honda as a leader in software-defined vehicles.

Energy Services and Charging Network

To ensure stress-free EV ownership, Honda is developing comprehensive energy services for the 0 Series. These include a robust charging network in North America through IONNA, a joint venture with other automakers, which aims to establish 30,000 high-quality charging stations by 2030.

Honda is also adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide personalized charging experiences. Additionally, the Honda Smart Charge service integrates with home energy systems, enabling cost-efficient and environmentally friendly charging solutions.

Starting in 2026, Honda’s energy services will allow 0 Series vehicles to act as virtual power plants, optimizing household energy use and reducing electricity costs. This approach highlights Honda’s commitment to sustainability and advancing EV technology.
