Xiaomi, a leading smartphone manufacturer, has applied for a sales license for their debut electric vehicle (EV) in China – the 2024 Xiaomi SU7 Max sedan. The EV, previously known as the MS11, will be manufactured in partnership with Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd (BAIC). Each car must undergo approval from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) before launch, with details published monthly, including photos and specifications that some automakers prefer to keep under wraps. Starting at ¥199,800 (approximately $28,000) as of March 2024.

The Xiaomi SU7 Max is an electric sedan measuring 4997/1963/1455 mm, featuring a 3000 mm wheelbase and offering 19″ and 20″ wheel options with tire specifications of 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20, respectively. Xiaomi has showcased two versions of the SU7: one with lidar technology installed behind the front windshield and another without. The SU7's electric motor, model TZ220XS000, is produced by United Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd, complemented by an ETC system for seamless toll payments on designated roads. The in-car system will run on Xiaomi's proprietary HyperOS, originally developed for smartphones but adapted for automotive use.

Production of the 2024 Xiaomi SU7 Max is slated to commence in December 2023 at BAIC Off-road Vehicle Co.'s Beijing facility, with deliveries scheduled to begin in February 2024. BAIC, a major player in China's automotive sector, also manufactures Mercedes-Benz vehicles locally through its joint venture, Beijing-Benz.

Xiaomi's foray into EV production was announced in March 2021, promising significant investment into the project, demonstrating their commitment to becoming a formidable player in the electric vehicle market.
