Collaboration with Legacy Motor Club and Jimmie Johnson
Toyota’s collaboration with Legacy Motor Club and legendary racer Jimmie Johnson added depth to the concept’s design. Johnson, widely recognized for his NASCAR career, has roots in off-road racing and a personal connection to Toyota trucks, having learned to drive in his uncle’s Toyota. This personal link with Toyota trucks is reflected in the ProRunner’s tribute to Johnson's off-road racing origins.
Built for the Stock Mid-Size Off-Road Race Class
The #84 Tacoma TRD ProRunner Race Concept has been specially modified to compete in the Stock Mid-Size off-road class. The build integrates the 2025 Tacoma TRD Pro components with the two-door Tacoma XtraCab, with specific adjustments for off-road performance, such as FOX Quick Switch 3 (QS3) Internal Bypass shocks with 2.5-inch aluminum housings, front TRD Upper Control Arms, and a comprehensive skid plate setup protecting key components like the transmission and transaxle.
Enhanced Safety and Race Features
The concept also includes a custom roll cage for added safety and rigidity, along with multipoint harnesses to secure the driver and navigator in IsoDynamic Performance seats. The ProRunner's bed is optimized for racing, featuring an aluminum-reinforced 6-foot bed with a dedicated fuel cell and bed-mounted spare tire carrier, replacing the standard tailgate with a net for weight reduction.
Distinctive Livery Design by Kyle Williams
Designer Kyle Williams crafted the ProRunner’s unique livery by merging elements from Jimmie Johnson’s memorable paint schemes with classic Toyota TRD colors. The vehicle sports a 2025 TRD Pro exclusive “Mudbath” base coat complemented by matte black graphics and retro TRD yellow, orange, and red striping that pays homage to Toyota’s racing heritage, particularly the Baja legacy of Ivan “Ironman” Stewart. Chrome accents, an ARB Sport Bar with custom lighting, and BFGoodrich tires on brushed aluminum TRD Pro wheels add to the retro-inspired aesthetic.
Toyota’s Partnership with Legacy Motor Club
The ProRunner Race Concept marks Toyota’s commitment to its collaboration with Legacy Motor Club, blending Johnson’s racing legacy with Toyota’s off-road history.
