The 2024 Toyota Prius ushers in a complete redesign with new exterior styling, interior updates, and improved hybrid powertrain. Toyota aims to appeal to eco-conscious drivers seeking style, performance, and fuel efficiency in the iconic Prius nameplate.
Exterior Redesign For 2024 Prius
Toyota gave the Prius a sportier look with coupe-like proportions, including a lowered roofline and wider rear stance. The exterior styling is meant to be progressive and eye-catching.
Details like the 19-inch alloy wheels on higher trims contribute to the new Prius' improved handling and performance. Toyota also focused on aerodynamics, with details like grille shutters to optimize airflow. This generation Prius has a 0.27 coefficient of drag.
Interior Updates Focus On Comfort And Technology
Inside, Toyota redesigned the Prius interior for a minimalist, high-tech aesthetic. The driver's display is now a digital screen directly in front of the steering wheel. An 8-inch touchscreen comes standard, with a 12.3-inch display optional.
Toyota enlarged the seat cushion area for added comfort on long drives. Higher trims add amenities like heated and ventilated front seats. The Prius also comes equipped with the latest tech features like wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and WiFi hotspot capability.
More Powerful Hybrid Powertrain
The 2024 Prius runs on Toyota's 5th generation hybrid system, pairing a 2.0L 4-cylinder gas engine with two electric motor-generators. Total system output is 194 hp for FWD models and 196 hp for AWD models. This improves the Prius' acceleration, with Toyota estimating 0-60 mph in 7.2 seconds for FWD models.
Toyota focused on improving efficiency as well. FWD Prius models achieve an estimated 57 mpg combined fuel economy. The AWD Prius is estimated at 54 mpg combined. Regenerative braking helps recapture energy and maximize fuel economy.
AWD Capability Available
For the first time, Toyota offers the Prius with an Electronic On-Demand AWD system. This engages the rear electric motor when needed for extra traction. Having AWD gives the Prius added capability in wet weather or light snow.
The AWD Prius uses a separate rear-mounted motor to power the rear wheels when required. Toyota upgraded the rear motor for 2024, increasing torque by 50%. This improves the Prius' traction when accelerating from a stop or driving on low-grip surfaces.
Three Well-Equipped Trims
The 2024 Toyota Prius comes in LE, XLE, and Limited trims. The LE includes 17-inch wheels, SofTex upholstery, and blind spot monitoring. Stepping up to the XLE adds 19-inch wheels, heated front seats, and parking assist technology.
The top-spec Limited includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, JBL sound system, panoramic roof, and ventilated front seats. Advanced driver assist systems like parking assist and pedestrian detection are optional.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and Connected Services
All Prius models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. New for 2024 is Proactive Driving Assist, which provides steering and braking support in certain situations.
The Prius also offers connected services like WiFi hotspot, remote start/lock/unlock via an app, and Over-the-Air software updates. Navigation utilizes cloud-based data for optimal mapping and traffic info.
