Calty Design Research President Kevin Hunter described the concept's purpose: enhancing the outdoor potential of the Land Cruiser 250 base by reshaping the vehicle to offer more accessibility and functionality for open-air experiences. The ROX concept maintains deep connections to the Land Cruiser heritage, with its open-air, open-top design reflecting the iconic "topless" versions of the past.

According to Adam Rabinowitz, Exterior Chief Designer, the open-top approach brings nostalgia and a unique connection to nature, aligning with Land Cruiser’s rugged heritage. Engineered with minimal barriers, the ROX design ensures passengers remain close to their surroundings, whether on safari, backcountry expeditions, or simply enjoying an evening at the campsite.

The reimagined 2024 Land Cruiser required over 50% of the vehicle to be redesigned, including the custom skeleton doors and a sliding soft top, enhancing the open-air feel. With a functional mid-gate, passengers can access the truck bed, integrated tailgate seating, and additional storage space, creating a versatile platform for outdoor utility.

In the cabin, 3D-printed SLS Nylon components were added for durability, while vibrant Heritage Orange leather offers a rugged yet stylish interior with built-in safety kits and catch-all webbing for essential gear. Externally, the Spring Green paint pays homage to the Land Cruiser's rich history, connecting modern design with classic heritage.

To tackle rugged terrains, the Toyota Land Cruiser ROX features a triple-bar roof rack and sports bar with molle panels, providing adaptable storage options. At the rear, a custom jerry can and spare carrier enhance utility, while high-lift steel bumpers with brush guards and widened fenders house durable tires mounted to 18-inch Calty-designed billet wheels.

Engineered for capability, the ROX is equipped with a customized independent TRD suspension. A 4-inch lift and an 8-inch increase in track width, achieved through forged aluminum control arms, expand the stance and enhance off-road performance, staying true to the Land Cruiser’s “go-anywhere” promise.
