Toyota has since refined this model, making it more powerful, responsive, and engaging.
The GR Yaris incorporates technology and insights from the World Rally Championship, embodying Toyota’s philosophy of developing better cars through motorsport. This car now features an evolved turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing increased power and torque, alongside a new eight-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission for quicker gear shifts.
Engineers have enhanced the chassis and adjusted the cockpit layout to offer a more authentic sports car experience. The suspension system has been refined for improved handling under high loads, and a cooling performance pack is now standard, equipping the car with additional cooling features. The new GR Yaris will be available in Europe starting Summer 2024.
GR Yaris: The Story So Far
Developed by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, the GR Yaris has sold over 40,000 units worldwide since its 2020 launch, with around half of these sales in Europe. The car benefits from Toyota's rally championship expertise, featuring a new engine, electronic all-wheel drive, and a bespoke chassis. Customer satisfaction remains high, with many considering it a classic sports car.
Powertrain: More Power, More Torque, More Control
The turbocharged three-cylinder engine now delivers 280 DIN hp and 390 Nm of torque. The engine's durability has been proven through extensive racing and rally testing. New features include lightweight pistons, a strengthened valvetrain, and an advanced cooling system. The GR Yaris also offers a new eight-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission, optimized for fast gear changes and better track performance.
