2024 Tesla Robotaxi Concept
Tesla has finally revealed its long-speculated 2024 Tesla Robotaxi Concept, officially named the Cybercab. Drawing design cues from the Cybertruck, the Cybercab stands out among robotaxi prototypes due to its availability for private consumers. Unlike many concept vehicles in the market, Tesla has confirmed that this model will be accessible for purchase.
- Tesla has introduced the 2024 Tesla Robotaxi Concept, officially named the Cybercab, which will be available for private consumers.
- The Cybercab's design is inspired by the Cybertruck, featuring a futuristic look with a full-width LED light bar at the front.
- Production of the Cybercab is expected to begin in 2026, with pricing expected to be under $30,000.
- The Cybercab is designed without a steering wheel or pedals, requiring regulatory approval before it can be sold.
- Inside, the minimalist interior includes seating for two and a large central infotainment screen, similar to the Model 3 and Model Y.
- The Cybercab features butterfly doors designed for easier entry and exit, although practicality remains to be seen in everyday settings.
- Tesla’s focus on aerodynamics is evident with solid aero wheel covers aimed at improving range.
- The car’s design eliminates wing mirrors and rear windows, highlighting its focus on full autonomy.
- No official information about the Cybercab's powertrain or range per charge has been revealed yet.
- The Cybercab is expected to bring autonomous driving technology to both private buyers and future robotaxi services.
Packed with Tesla’s latest autonomous driving technology, the Cybercab was showcased at an event with around 20 units available for test rides. According to Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, production is slated to begin in 2026. However, Musk has also acknowledged that he tends to be “optimistic” with production timelines, clarifying that it should be available no later than 2027 and priced below $30,000.
One of the Cybercab’s defining features is its steering-wheel-free and pedal-less design, which will require regulatory approval before Tesla can proceed with production and sales. As is characteristic of Tesla vehicles, the interior is minimalist, featuring a large central infotainment screen reminiscent of the Model 3 and Model Y, and seating for two.
Futuristic Design and Features
On the exterior, the Cybercab embraces a futuristic aesthetic with a full-width LED light bar across the front, similar to the Cybertruck. Other familiar Tesla design elements are present, such as the sharp lines running across the hood and the rear shoulders reminiscent of the Model Y. However, the standout design feature is the butterfly doors, giving the Cybercab a supercar-like feel, which may provide easier entry and exit, though practical use remains to be seen.
Aerodynamics and Autonomy
Tesla’s focus on aerodynamics continues with solid aero wheel covers that aim to extend the vehicle’s range. The rear of the Cybercab features a thin light bar, again borrowing from the Cybertruck’s design. As it is built for full autonomy, the car eliminates features like wing mirrors and even a rear window, reflecting Tesla's belief that the need to “look back” is obsolete when the car drives itself.
Powertrain Uncertainty
Tesla remains tight-lipped about the Cybercab’s powertrain specifications, particularly in terms of its range per charge—a critical factor for a vehicle designed for robotaxi services intended to operate continuously.
