Renault has been a trailblazer in the ludospace (leisure MPV) segment for over 25 years, setting benchmarks with its unique design, unmatched practicality, and the pioneering sliding side door. The Renault Kangoo has not only kept pace with the times but also remained profoundly innovative.
This remarkable success story spans over 4.4 million Kangoo vehicles sold in 50 countries globally, with the electric version reigning as the segment's bestseller since 2011. It's a versatile marvel, offering elegance and spaciousness for families while delivering ample boot space and durability for professionals.
The Kangoo lineup, constantly evolving and elevating its features, now introduces the Grand Kangoo – a longer version that enhances all the strengths of the original.
The Grand Kangoo retains the practicality of its predecessor and incorporates essential safety features and comfort enhancements:
- Three proper seats in the second row and two in the third, accommodating seven adults comfortably and offering more space than any other vehicle in its category.
- Best-in-class knee room for third-row passengers (164 mm).
- Over 58 liters of easily accessible storage space, including the convenient Easy Life sliding drawer and under-floor storage trays in the second row.
- A generous 500-liter boot in the 7-seater version, expandable to a massive 3,750 liters by removing the rear seats and folding down the front passenger seat.
- Five 'real' independent rear seats that slide, fold, retract, and are removable, allowing for up to 1024 seat configurations.
- Impressive 3.11 meters of load length with the front passenger seat folded down.
- A suite of 14 driving aids, including Level 2 autonomous driving, for enhanced safety.
Much like its predecessor, the Grand Kangoo offers an inviting interior with a brushed dark wood finish on the dashboard, a comfortable cabin, and improved ergonomics. The dashboard now integrates specific E-Tech data for the electric version.
Access to the third row is simplified with two wide 83 cm sliding doors, an extended door sill, and foldable second-row seats, making it effortless for passengers of all ages to enter and exit the vehicle securely, even when installing a child car seat with isofix mountings.
Grand Kangoo's adaptability makes it suitable for a wide range of purposes. It comes standard with a glazed tailgate, and hinged rear doors with 2/3-1/3 glazing are also available for convenient access to the boot, especially in height-restricted areas.
The expansive interior space caters to families seeking seven large seats for frequent use and ensures passengers of all sizes enjoy maximum comfort. Childcare professionals will find it equally accommodating with five isofix-equipped seats, ergonomic seating for children in baby seats or booster seats, and the ability to modify the seating configuration (e.g., 2/2/2) for easy passenger settling.
Electric Power for the Future The Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric boasts a new 45 kWh lithium-ion battery with eight independent, easily replaceable modules, providing up to 265 km of WLTP range – ideal for everyday drives with cost-efficiency in mind.
A brief stop at an 80 kW DC charging point for just 10 minutes can replenish 80 km of range. These batteries are backed by an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, with free replacement if their capacity drops below 70% of their State Of Health (SoH) during this period.
Powered by a 90 kW motor delivering 245 Nm of instant torque, the Grand Kangoo provides smooth performance in all driving conditions. Switching to Eco mode optimizes range by limiting power to 56 kW and capping the vehicle's speed at 110 km/h.
Drivers can also choose from three regenerative braking modes to suit various scenarios:
- Sailing (B1) for limited regeneration, ideal for free-flowing highways.
- Drive (B2), the default mode offering a familiar response when lifting off the brake pedal.
- Brake (B3) for maximum regeneration, perfect for traffic and mountainous terrain.
The conventional hydraulic braking system is complemented by an Adaptative Regenerative Brake System (ARBS) that maximizes energy recovery.
These combinations between traction and braking modes provide six distinct driving styles to optimize comfort and range based on driving habits and traffic conditions. All this information, along with electric power management and driver assistance systems, can be displayed on an optional 10-inch digital and customizable color dashboard.
For year-round range optimization, the Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric features a regulated dual-zone climate control system with a heat pump. It captures and transfers calories from outside the vehicle to warm the interior in winter and cool it in summer, all while conserving up to 30 km of extra range by avoiding sole reliance on heating resistors powered by the traction battery.
Additionally, the Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric offers optional heating for the windshield, front seats, and steering wheel, enhancing winter comfort without significantly affecting battery life.
Two charger options are available:
- A 22 kW AC fast charger that takes the battery from 15% to 80% in just 2 hours and 40 minutes.
- A 22 kW AC – DC 80 kW charger (standard) that adds 170 km of range in 27 minutes, catering to a wide range of driving needs.
To further support the All-new Grand Kangoo E-Tech Electric's connectivity, it includes specific connected services accessible via the MyRenault smartphone app or Renault Easy Link multimedia system (standard):
- Scheduled battery charging and remote battery status monitoring.
- Pre-heating or pre-cooling of the passenger compartment.
- Assistance in locating charging stations along your route.
- Help in finding destinations within your remaining battery range.
In addition to the electric variant, the Grand Kangoo will also be available with internal combustion engines, offering versatility to meet various emission standards.
The All-new Renault Grand Kangoo lineup presents three distinct versions tailored to specific customer preferences:
- Authentic: Equipped with essential features for both personal and work-related use.
- Equilibre: Designed for local authorities seeking comfortable and economical passenger transport services with a positive impact.
- Techno: Ideal for families and tradespeople who prioritize comfort, safety, and distinctive design, featuring practical elements like roof bars for easy roof box installation.
The Grand Kangoo, starting with the Authentic level, includes electric rear windows, a reversing camera, easylink multimedia screen, and connected services as standard.
Orders for the All-new Grand Kangoo will open towards the end of this year, with deliveries scheduled to commence in early 2024.
Maubeuge: A Hub of Electrification Excellence Renault's Maubeuge factory in Hauts-de-France has been manufacturing Kangoo vehicles for the global market since 1997. It is now an integral part of the ElectriCity hub, Europe's largest and most competitive electric vehicle production center, with plans to produce 480,000 electric vehicles annually by 2025.
To support the production of the All-new Kangoo and vehicles from partners Mercedes and Nissan, Renault has invested €450 million in the Maubeuge plant and established a new battery assembly workshop. The electric motor and chargers for the All-new Kangoo E-TECH electric are produced at Renault's Cléon plant in Normandy.
Renault's commitment to Maubeuge has led to the recruitment of 200 permanent employees in 2023 as part of the social agreement "for the future of Renault sites in the Hauts de France," with a total of 350 direct jobs planned for the site by 2024.
