Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, a renowned leader in the automotive industry, is proud to announce the participation of Team Mitsubishi RALLIART in the highly anticipated Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR). The rally, set to take place from Thailand to Laos in August, will witness the incredible performance of rally cars based on the all-new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton Ralliart AXCR - a vehicle that has undergone a remarkable evolution in all aspects.
Redesigned and Reliable: The All-New Triton Rally Car
The all-new Triton rally car, adapted to meet AXCR vehicle restrictions, showcases exceptional performance and durability. Building on its existing reputation for reliability, this rally car boasts enhanced sporty and stable handling, ensuring a powerful and responsive driving experience across all speed ranges, even on challenging terrains like muddy roads.
A Stellar Lineup: Team Mitsubishi RALLIART's Drivers
Team Mitsubishi RALLIART will be a force to reckon with at the AXCR 2023, fielding three skillful drivers: Chayapon Yotha from Thailand, the champion driver of last year's AXCR; Rifat Sungkar from Indonesia, who secured an impressive 5th overall position last year; and Katsuhiko Taguchi from Japan, a two-time winner of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. Under the able guidance of team director Hiroshi Masuoka and the support of Mitsubishi Motors engineers, the team will embark on the challenge in the versatile Delica D:5 minivan, combining the handling of an SUV with the comfort of an MPV. From analyzing competition conditions to providing technical support at service parks, the team will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of victory.
A Word from Team Director Hiroshi Masuoka
Expressing his excitement about the all-new Triton rally car, team director Hiroshi Masuoka stated, "We are very excited to be able to take on the competition with the all-new Triton, which has been fully redesigned and evolved significantly in all aspects. Triton rally cars have undergone over 2,000 km of endurance testing in Japan and Thailand with no major problems, and we have confirmed that they provide even better performance than last year's model in every stage, from flat dirt high-speed stages to muddy low-speed stages. We will be driving with three rally cars, each of which is competing for the overall victory, and we want to take the championship position up on the podium for another consecutive victory."
The All-New Triton Rally Car: A Showcase of Innovation
Based on the Thai-spec double cab model, the all-new Triton rally car adheres to the strict FIA Group T1 restrictions for modified cross-country vehicles. Visually captivating with its red and black motif, inspired by the energy of gushing lava, this car is equipped with a roll cage, bumper guard, and lightweight carbon fiber parts, including the hood, front and rear doors, and cargo bed. Despite significant weight reductions in its interior components, the Triton rally car maintains its body weight while offering a larger body size, ensuring an agile and powerful presence on the track.
Mastering Challenging Terrains: Performance Enhancements
The rally-specific front and rear suspension, along with a limited-slip differential (LSD), grant the Triton rally car sporty and stable handling, enabling drivers to have full control during the rally. By incorporating lightweight aluminum wheels and narrow off-road tires, Mitsubishi Motors has elevated the vehicle's road handling capabilities, particularly on tough surfaces like mud. The robust chassis, further enhanced with front and rear twin dampers and bump stops, effectively absorbs shocks from harsh road conditions.
Power and Versatility: The Newly Developed 2.4 L Diesel Turbo Engine
The all-new Triton rally car features a specially tuned 2.4 L diesel turbo engine designed to reduce friction loss and weight. Coupled with a new turbocharger, this engine delivers increased output across the entire range, ensuring optimum performance on all AXCR special stages, including river crossings. The vehicle's sealing and integration of a snorkel, or an intake duct, allow it to confidently handle water crossings during the rally.
