Mercedes-AMG is expanding its range of E Performance hybrids into the SUV segment with the introduction of the 2024 GLC63 S E Performance. This new model combines a high-performance gas engine with electric drive for impressive output and efficiency.
Powertrain and Performance
The GLC63 S E Performance features a hybrid powertrain with a hand-built AMG 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and a rear-mounted electric motor. This P3 layout provides a combined 671 horsepower and up to 752 lb-ft of torque.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is the most powerful four-cylinder production engine, producing 469 hp and 402 lb-ft of torque on its own. The 201 hp electric motor is mated to a two-speed gearbox and limited-slip rear differential. Power comes from a high-voltage 400-volt battery developed in-house by AMG.
This hybrid system enables a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 171 mph. The immediate torque from the electric motor provides improved acceleration and agility. Multiple drive modes allow for responsive, dynamic performance or efficient electric-only driving.
Handling and Dynamics
The GLC63 S E Performance comes equipped with AMG's 4MATIC+ fully-variable all-wheel drive system. Torque can be shifted from a rear-biased 50/50 split up to 100% rear as needed. This provides optimized traction and dynamics.
The SUV also has standard rear-axle steering with up to 2.5 degrees of angle for greater maneuverability at low speeds and enhanced stability at high speeds. AMG RIDE CONTROL air suspension with adaptive damping gives a balance of comfort and controlled dynamics.
