2024 Kalmar 7-97 C1: A Classic Reimagined for North America

The first Kalmar 7-97 C1 for the North American market has arrived in California, under the commission of Kalmar Automotive’s U.S. representative, Canepa, led by Bruce Canepa. This model, known as the "C1," pays homage to the original 1970s Porsche 911 ST and is the most advanced 7-97 model to date. It features the new "Triple 4" engine specification, a 4.0-liter engine producing over 400 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, and includes all-wheel drive, a front axle lift system, and a ceramic braking system.

  • Additional technical features include adaptive active suspension, a multi-link rear axle, six-speed gearbox, lightweight three-piece split rims, and an optional ceramic braking system.

  • The interior includes a full leather design, Recaro sports seats, Bluetooth audio, rain-sensing wipers, and a specially designed key with electronic controls for the luggage compartments.

  • Kalmar Automotive produces no more than 12 units of the 7-97 each year, with the C1 now available at Canepa’s Scotts Valley headquarters in California, with further versions expected in North America soon.


Kalmar Automotive’s Bespoke Approach

Kalmar Automotive, known for enhancing and restoring bespoke sports cars and adventure vehicles, has delivered its first 7-97 to the USA. The Kalmar 7-97 C1, based on the 993 platform, benefits from the lightest and stiffest body option. The vehicle's design includes a re-engineered decklid and Kalmar Automotive’s unique bonded glass solution, reducing lift, drag, and wind noise.

California Dreamin': A Nod to Heritage and Modern Engineering

Each Kalmar 7-97 is meticulously designed to pay tribute to the heritage and style of the rare Porsche 911 ST of the 1970s. The 7-97 uses an air-cooled 964 or 993 generation of 911 as its base and is available in coupé, cabriolet, targa, or RS-R body styles. The all-wheel drive C1 is built on a 993-generation platform, with the "Triple 4" engine producing 401 horsepower and 426 Nm of torque, supported by advanced components like a 997 GT3 crankshaft, drive-by-wire throttle bodies, and a Motec M150 ECU.


Advanced Technical Features

The Kalmar 7-97 C1 boasts adaptive active suspension, a multi-link rear axle, a six-speed gearbox, and ultra-lightweight three-piece split rims. Optional features include a traction control system with Sport mode, a lightweight ceramic braking system, and a front axle lift system. The car's interior is fitted with a full leather design, Recaro sports seats, twin airbags, Bluetooth audio, and rain-sensing wipers. Even the key, designed especially for Kalmar Automotive, features electronic controls for the front luggage compartment and rear deck lid.


7-97: A Blend of Past, Present, and Future

The in-house developed 7-97 retains the iconic 911 silhouette while incorporating unique lightweight carbon fiber body panels and electric air conditioning and power steering systems. As a rear-wheel drive, the 7-97 weighs approximately 1150 kg, while the all-wheel drive C1 comes in just under 1215 kg. Lighter versions are available upon request.

The arrival of the 7-97 C1 in the U.S. solidifies the partnership between Kalmar Automotive and Canepa. This collaboration marks the beginning of a special relationship, with Bruce Canepa’s attention to detail and connection to the Porsche marque playing a key role.

Limited Production and Global Availability

Kalmar Automotive produces no more than 12 units of the 7-97 annually, with each car being truly bespoke. The C1 is now on display at Canepa’s Scotts Valley headquarters in California, available for viewing by appointment. Future versions of the 7-97 are expected to arrive in North America in the coming months.
