About the Car

2024 Jeep Compass e-hybrid

After the exciting journey to discover the Balocco Proving Ground with the Jeep  Avenger e-Hybrid, the experience continues with the tests of other powerful e-Hybrid vehicles from the Jeep brand range. It is the beginning of the second phase of the test drives, where the spotlight is on several protagonists: these are the Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass MY24, both equipped with the brand's advanced hybrid engine system.

Balocco, a small Italian jewel, is once again the stage for the celebration of sustainable technological innovation. From 12 to 20 March, the Piedmontese town hosts the media drives of the Jeep e-Hybrid range, opening the doors of the country and the vehicles to selected European journalists from 14 countries. Thanks to tests on specially designed routes, journalists will discover the unique characteristics of the two e-Hybrid cars and their real performance, for a 100% hybrid experience.

The e-Hybrid powertrain manages the propulsion system seamlessly, automatically alternating between 100% electric, hybrid and internal combustion engines. Switching between the various propulsion types occurs based on factors such as the state of charge of the 48V battery (liquid-cooled and with a capacity of 17.5Ah), real-time driving conditions and other monitored parameters. An intelligent system that guarantees exceptional performance in different driving scenarios. These vehicles therefore adapt extremely fluidly to the needs of the road. This applies whether it is the 100% electric drive, which is smooth and quiet when starting, the efficient hybrid mode when cruising or the powerful internal combustion engine for acceleration.

The two cars, equipped with a 1.5 L GSE T4 turbo engine, integrate a large number of innovative features and components, designed to improve efficiency and performance. The fulcrum is represented by the GSE T4 engine, a four-cylinder turbopetrol with Miller operating cycle which generates 130 HP and 240 Nm of maximum torque, ensuring power but also fuel savings. Another fundamental element is the hybrid system. This integrates an intelligent braking mechanism that allows energy to be used during deceleration thanks to regenerative braking. The engine is complemented by a belt-driven starter generation mechanism (Belt Starter Generator, BSG). This component facilitates restarting of the internal combustion engine (ICE) at low speeds, ensuring low emissions and uninterrupted operation. Additionally, the drivetrain features a P2.5 motor, providing 15 kW of extra electric propulsion, strategically matched to even gears for optimal efficiency. Power is provided by a compact 48V air-cooled battery pack, with a capacity of 17.5Ah and 0.8kWh, which guarantees large energy storage for hybrid maneuvers. The hybrid control system, housed in a separate unit, coordinates the alternation of the various propulsion systems, optimizing performance in different driving conditions.

Electric propulsion stands out for its unique features. Pure electrification offers significant advantages, such as the "e-creeping" function, which allows a series of small forward movements without the need to use the accelerator. A particularly useful solution, for example, in crowded city traffic ("e-queueing"). Furthermore, the vehicle can be parked in 100% electric mode (e-Parking). This solution allows energy to be recovered during deceleration and facilitates automatic charging with regenerative braking, eliminating the need for plug-in refueling.

Jeep Renegade and Compass MY24 are part of a renewed, more essential and efficient lineup, made up of three trim levels for Renegade (Renegade, Altitude, Summit) and two trim levels for Compass (Altitude and Summit). In this way, customers have a complete range of products tailored to different needs.

Renegade MY24 takes a big step forward in terms of multimedia thanks to the renewed 10.25-inch TFT digital cluster and the new 10.1-inch infotainment system, with five times more processing power than the previous generation. Also worth highlighting is the redesigned steering wheel, as well as the new high-resolution rear camera and Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, now wireless. All these features become standard on the entire range, starting from the basic trim level, Renegade, which completes the offer with 16-inch alloy wheels and cloth seats and fog lights. The most complete solution corresponds to the Altitude setup, which boasts exclusive features. Such as the splendid Full LED headlights and rear lights, the LED front fog lights that perfectly illuminate the road and the automatic climate control, to optimize interior comfort. Testing the Summit trim, journalists will discover a premium mix of luxury and comfort, underlined by the new 18-inch alloy wheels and heated front seats, which guarantee warmth and comfort even on longer journeys.

As for the Jeep Compass, the Altitude trim level offers premium exterior and interior elements. These include full LED reflectors with an unmistakable design, chrome DLO, 18-inch alloy wheels and fabric/vinyl seats. Summit, on the other hand, offers 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a two-tone black roof.
