2024 Ford Police Interceptor Utility
Ford Pro announces the new 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility (PIU), featuring a popular hybrid powertrain option, is now shipping to police agencies across the country, expanding America's best-selling lineup of police vehicles.
The 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility (PIU) features a hybrid powertrain option, aimed at improving efficiency for police agencies.
The hybrid system can power onboard equipment when the gas engine is off, potentially saving up to 838 gallons of fuel annually, leading to cost savings of approximately $17,500 over six years.
The PIU is designed and tested to meet Ford's 75-mph rear-impact crash test goals, ensuring safety for officers on the road.
Standard features include the Police Perimeter Alert system, which detects threats around the vehicle and automatically activates safety measures.
The Police Engine Idle feature allows officers to lock the vehicle and take the keys while the engine continues running to power equipment.
Optional ballistic panels provide level III+ or IV+ protection, resisting bullets up to .30 caliber and armor-piercing ammunition, respectively.
Advanced driver-assist technologies, such as Automatic Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Monitoring, come standard to enhance driving safety.
Integrated steering wheel controls connect officers to installed equipment, making it easier to manage lights, sirens, and other applications.
The Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) system ensures secure access to the cargo area, preventing unauthorized entry.
Ford Pro Telematics, available through a subscription, provides real-time data on vehicle performance and maintenance needs, helping agencies manage their fleets effectively.
Hybrid Powertrain and Fuel Savings
The 2025 Ford PIU sets the standard for pursuit-rated law enforcement vehicles with a hybrid powertrain option. This system powers onboard equipment even when the gas engine is off, potentially saving up to 838 gallons of fuel per year. This translates to projected cost reductions of approximately $17,500 over a six-year ownership term with gas priced at $3.50 per gallon.
Safety Standards
The PIU is designed and tested to pass the Ford 75-mph rear-impact crash test goals, ensuring the vehicle's pursuit-rated distinction and officer safety on highways.
Officer Safety Features
The 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility comes standard with features to enhance officer safety and productivity. The Police Perimeter Alert system detects moving threats around the vehicle, activating the rear camera, sounding a chime, rolling up windows, and locking doors, allowing officers to monitor surroundings at different sensitivity levels and complete tasks inside the vehicle.
Police Engine Idle
Police Engine Idle lets officers lock the vehicle and take the keys while the engine continues running to power onboard equipment.
Ballistic Panels
Available ballistic panels for front door panels provide level III+ or IV+ protection. Level III+ can resist many handgun and non-armor-piercing bullets up to .30 caliber, while level IV+ panels offer protection against .30-caliber armor-piercing rifle ammunition.
Advanced Driver-Assist Technology
Standard advanced driver-assist technology includes Automatic Emergency Braking, BLIS (Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-traffic Alert), Rear Parking Sensors, Reverse Brake Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking, providing driving assurance for officers in various scenarios.
Integrated Controls
Four remappable switches integrated into the steering wheel connect the driver with installed equipment, allowing easy control of lights, sirens, speakers, K9 door releases, and other police applications. An available lockable vault provides convenient storage for weapons, ammunition, or critical evidence. The PIU also comes standard with Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO), a two-part security system for the cargo area.
Ford Pro Telematics
The 2025 PIU comes standard with a Ford modem and the option to subscribe to Ford Pro Telematics. This service provides real-time vehicle data on performance and service needs, helping agency fleet managers anticipate and plan maintenance, thus increasing uptime and productivity.
Comprehensive Law Enforcement Line-Up
The 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility is assembled at Chicago Assembly Plant in Illinois and is part of Ford’s comprehensive lineup of America’s best-selling police vehicles, including the pursuit-rated 2024 F-150 Police Responder, Expedition/MAX SSV, and Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle models.
