The Ferrari 296 Challenge is the latest track-focused model developed by the Italian marque for its one-make racing series. Set to debut in 2024, the mid-engine sports car features a twin-turbo V6 engine and extensive modifications to optimize it for the racetrack.

Engine and Performance

The 296 Challenge is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that generates 700hp, an increase from the 663hp output in the road-going 296 GTB. This was achieved by removing the hybrid system and tweaking components like the turbos. The engine's specific power output is a record 234hp per liter for a Ferrari.

The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of over 300 km/h. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Aerodynamics and Handling

The 296 Challenge produces 870kg of downforce at 250 km/h thanks to an aggressive aerodynamic package. This includes a large rear wing, front splitter, redesigned diffusers and vortex generators. The downforce improves high-speed stability and cornering performance.

The carbon ceramic brakes provide tremendous stopping power lap after lap. They are an evolution of the ABS system from the 296 GTB, tuned for track use. The 296 Challenge also runs on specially developed Pirelli tires.

Interior and Safety

The stripped-out cockpit is focused on performance, with features like an adjustable racing seat, quick-access controls and a multifunction steering wheel. Safety is enhanced by the extensive roll cage compliant with racing standards.
