BYD has entered the medium and large MPV market with the launch of the 2024 BYD Xia at the Chengdu Auto Show. This new model is positioned to compete with the Buick GL8 and is part of BYD's broader strategy, alongside the Denza D9.
2024 BYD Xia makes its debut as a medium and large MPV at the Chengdu Auto Show, targeting competition with the Buick GL8 and Denza D9.
The design of the 2024 BYD Xia incorporates elements from the BYD Dynasty Network, including a large front grille and chrome details.
While sharing some similarities with the Denza D9, the Xia features distinct design characteristics, including a more stable side profile.
The BYD Xia measures 5145 mm in length, 1970 mm in width, and 1805 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3045 mm. It is smaller than the Denza D9, which is 5250 mm long and has a 3110 mm wheelbase.
The vehicle comes equipped with 18-inch multi-spoke wheels and Michelin Lingyue series tires, size 235/60 R18, aimed at enhancing comfort.
The rear design of the Xia includes a small top spoiler and through-type taillights, with similarities to the BYD Han.
The 2024 BYD Xia is built on BYD’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid technology, though detailed specifications are not yet available.
The Xia will feature the Yunnian-C intelligent damping body control system for improved ride quality.
A unique feature of the Xia is the planned user-involved design process for the "Xia" logo, which will be introduced upon the vehicle's launch.
The 2024 BYD Xia will compete in the medium and large MPV segment, offering a blend of traditional MPV styling with modern design elements.
The 2024 BYD Xia maintains a traditional MPV silhouette while incorporating design elements from the BYD Dynasty Network. It features a prominent front grille connected to the headlights, with chrome accents reflecting the Dynasty design language. Although there are similarities to the Denza D9, the Xia distinguishes itself with unique front and side design elements.
On the side, the Xia exhibits design features akin to the D9 but is not a mere re-skinned variant. Compared to the D9, the Xia has a more stable appearance with a different waistline and less pronounced forward-leaning profile. The dimensions of the BYD Xia are 5145 mm in length, 1970 mm in width, and 1805 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3045 mm. In contrast, the Tengzhong D9 is larger, measuring 5250 mm in length and with a wheelbase of 3110 mm.
The vehicle is equipped with 18-inch multi-spoke wheels fitted with Michelin Lingyue series tires, size 235/60 R18, focusing on comfort. The rear design includes a small top spoiler and through-type taillights with structural similarities to the BYD Han.
The BYD Xia will feature the brand’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid technology, though specific powertrain details have yet to be announced. It will also include the Yunnian-C intelligent damping body control system. The car name "Xia" will be prominently displayed upon launch, following a user-driven design initiative for the logo.
