Volkswagen is unveiling its vision of an all-electric sports limousine in the upper mid-sized class at the ID. Treffen event in Locarno, Switzerland, from September 8 to 9. The ID.X Performance concept car showcases impressive all-wheel drive capabilities, a performance-oriented suspension system, and a striking design that sets it apart in the electric vehicle landscape.
Maria Soni Reissfelder, Head of Marketing & Sales for the Volkswagen ID. Family, expresses excitement about presenting the ID.X Performance to enthusiasts from across Europe. This event provides a unique opportunity to connect with members of the ID. Drivers Club and share the brand's vision. Andreas Reckewerth and his team of engineers have harnessed the full potential of Volkswagen's Modular Electric Drive platform (MEB) to blend sporty performance with the elegant lines of a limousine. Alongside the captivating show car, Volkswagen will also showcase production models like the ID.7, which recently began pre-sales in Germany.
Andreas Reckewerth, Head of Technology Office MEB, and his team have transformed the ID.7 into the remarkable ID.X Performance show car. According to Reckewerth, "The MEB offers numerous creative possibilities for vehicle development, and it was evident that we wanted to base our new show car on the ID.7 while focusing on enhancing performance." The MEB, short for Modular Electric Drive platform, serves as the foundation for Volkswagen's innovative electric vehicles.
The ID.X Performance boasts a commanding presence with its dynamic exterior design. Sporting features like a carbon front splitter and rear diffuser, this all-electric limousine stands out. The engineers have increased the toe by 80 millimeters and lowered the sports suspension with specially designed stiff springs by 60 millimeters, contributing significantly to its performance and agility. The vehicle rolls on 20-inch sports alloy wheels with a central lock, wrapped in 265 racing tires. At the rear, a carbon wing provides essential downforce, while tinted tail light clusters add to the vehicle's sporty aesthetics. Inside the cabin, carbon bucket seats offer exceptional support, even during spirited driving, with red accents highlighting its sporty character.
Under the hood, the ID.X Performance features a potent dual-motor drive system with a total power output of 411 kW (558 PS) and a boost function. Volkswagen has combined a permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle with an additional asynchronous motor on the front axle to create a formidable all-wheel drive setup. This configuration offers advantages such as short-time overload capability and minimal drag losses, making it ideal for delivering bursts of power through the boost function. The drive torque is expertly managed by a Vehicle Dynamics Manager, which also controls the rear axle differential lock. The driver can access these features via a dedicated 17-centimeter touchscreen display in the center console.
The dual-motor drive draws energy from a high-capacity drive battery, enabling sustained high-power output and rapid charging with a capacity of up to 200 kW.
Volkswagen is proud to showcase the ID.X Performance at the international ID. Treffen event in Locarno, where electric vehicle enthusiasts gather to share their passion and embark on joint excursions. Organized by members of the ID. Drivers Club, this event sets a new attendance record in 2023 with over 130 vehicles. The Volkswagen brand team, consisting of experts, will be on-site to provide insights into the latest developments in electric mobility. Alongside the ID.X Performance, Volkswagen is also introducing other models from the ID. family, continuing to excite electric vehicle enthusiasts worldwide.
