Nyobolt, the innovative UK-based developer specializing in ultra-fast-charging batteries, has unveiled its groundbreaking battery technology and its potential to revolutionize electric vehicles (EVs). With a remarkable achievement of a full charge in under six minutes, Nyobolt sets a new record in automotive electrification.

A Visionary Approach to the Future of EVs

Nyobolt aims to address the key challenges that have hindered the widespread adoption of electric cars globally. One major obstacle has been the inability to match the convenience of petrol refueling with current EV technology. Consequently, electric vehicle batteries have been bulky, heavy, and expensive, making EVs inaccessible to some buyers. Moreover, these large battery packs put immense strain on the supply of raw materials. However, Nyobolt is proud to present a solution that challenges this paradigm. Their innovative battery technology is smaller, lighter, and can be fully charged in just six minutes, offering a range of up to 250 km. This breakthrough paves the way for nimble, efficient EVs with lower costs upfront, reduced running expenses, and decreased demand for scarce raw materials.

2023 Nyobolt EV Concept

The Nyobolt EV, weighing closer to one tonne than two, is equipped with a 35 kWh battery. Remarkably, it can achieve a full charge, providing a range of up to 250 km, in under six minutes using existing charging infrastructure. This rapid charging speed is equivalent to charging at over 1,600 mph, surpassing the fastest charging cars available today.

Unlocking New Design Possibilities with Advanced Batteries

The introduction of Nyobolt’s cutting-edge battery technology does not compromise battery life. Rigorously tested through over 2,000 fast charge cycles without significant performance loss, these batteries open doors to the development of ultra-efficient and lightweight EVs. Notably, Nyobolt’s technology is not limited to small batteries. It can be applied to larger battery packs found in luxury EVs, trucks, and buses, enabling their rapid charging once 1 MW chargers become available.

Collaboration with CALLUM and Visionary Designer Julian Thomson

To showcase the benefits of fast charging and increased uptime, Nyobolt collaborated with renowned designer Julian Thomson, known for his work on the iconic Lotus Elise. Inspired by Thomson’s design philosophy, the team aimed to evolve the concept into a car with enhanced presence and proportions, wider, longer, and lower, while retaining an aggressive and bold stance reminiscent of the original.

The collaboration extended to working with design and engineering business CALLUM, resulting in an EV that exemplifies how Nyobolt’s revolutionary battery technology can be seamlessly integrated across the automotive industry. CALLUM and Nyobolt approached the project holistically, addressing each element, from materials and cells to packs, drivetrains, and the vehicle as a whole. The final collaborative design embodies the original vehicle’s premise of a high power-to-weight ratio within an exquisite package.

Ready for Rapid Scale-Up

Nyobolt’s groundbreaking technology is set to enter production in early 2024, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of the electric vehicle holy grail. Their proven 10C (six-minute) charge lithium-ion technology allows for immediate application and rapid scale-up.

Sai Shivareddy, CEO at Nyobolt, emphasized the company’s achievement, stating, “Overcoming the challenges faced by electric vehicle designers has been instrumental in the development of our breakthrough fast-charging batteries. Previously, creating a lightweight, fast-charging vehicle without compromising its lifespan was deemed impossible, leading to the reliance on expensive and large battery packs. However, with our unique technology, we have accomplished a six-minute charge capability and developed smaller battery packs capable of delivering more power in less time.”

As Nyobolt prepares to revolutionize the EV industry, their advanced battery technology promises to transform the way we view and embrace electric vehicles. Stay tuned as Nyobolt continues to push boundaries and shape the future of sustainable transportation.
