About the Car

2023 Nissan Z Safety Car

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) today announced the all-new Nissan Z will serve as a safety car in the Super GT race series operated by GT Association, Inc. The sports car will make its debut in the third round of the 2022 season at Suzuka Circuit, with the handover ceremony taking place at the May 29 race. Takao Katagiri, head of Nissan’s Motorsports Business Unit Office and president of NMC, says, “This year we began competing in the Super GT with the Nissan Z GT500. Now the Z — the embodiment of Nissan DNA — will support the series’ safety.”

2023 Nissan Z Safety Car

Safety cars perform vital duties, including pre-race inspections of the track for obstacles and leading competition cars when race accidents occur. Nissan and NMC donated the vehicle.

The Z sports car symbolizes Nissan’s passion for driving and has been loved by fans around the world for more than 50 years. Unveiled in August 2021, the all-new Z has been enthusiastically received by new and old aficionados alike thanks to its iconic styling and exciting technology-drive performance. By competing in this season’s Super GT with the Nissan Z GT500, Nissan and NMC aim to broaden the Z’s fan base and increase the exposure of the Super GT series.

While the six previous generations of Nissan’s iconic sports car all offered numeric designations, the long-awaited redesign will be known in the United States simply by just one letter – Z.

The 2023 Z offers a sleek, attractive exterior with a silhouette that shows respect for the original model – with a long hood and low rear stance. Inside, the driver-centric cockpit includes a 12.3-inch customizable racing-inspired meter display, available leather-appointed sports seats and 8-speaker Bose® audio system.

All 2023 Nissan Z models are equipped with a 400-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine and choice of 6-speed manual transmission with motorsports-inspired EXEDY® high-performance clutch, or a new 9-speed automatic transmission with aluminum paddle shifters.

Developed by a passionate team of designers and engineers, the all-new Nissan Z represents an approachable sports car for the modern age – with an unmatched 50-plus year heritage and global fan base.

The all-new, seventh-generation 2023 Nissan Z, which drops its numerical prefix in the U.S. for the first time, is scheduled to go on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide in spring 2022.

The 2023 Z is offered in Sport and Performance grade levels and a special “Proto Spec” edition, which is limited to 240 units.
