2023 Nissan Z Safari Rally Tribute Concept Debuts at SEMA
Nissan unveiled a unique off-road take on the 2023 Nissan Z sports car at the 2022 SEMA show. Dubbed the Safari Rally Z Tribute, the lifted and ruggedized concept pays homage to Nissan's motorsports heritage, including the 1971 East African Safari Rally-winning Datsun 240Z race car.
Safari-Inspired Modifications to New Nissan Z
Built by Tommy Pike Customs, the Safari Rally Z Tribute features a range of modifications suited for rally raid and overland driving. Custom suspension lifts the coupe 2 inches, while 17-inch NISMO Safari wheels with all-terrain tires provide enhanced capability.
Skid plates, bumper guards, and a roll bar protect the Z for off-road use. Exterior lighting upgrades include NISMO LED lights, and the 400+ horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine gains a cold air intake and cat-back exhaust for added power.
Vintage Datsun 240Z Replica Displayed
Alongside the rally-inspired 2023 Z concept, Nissan showcased a period-correct replica of the 1971 East African Safari Rally-winning Datsun 240Z. The #11 car, driven by Edgar Herrmann and Hans Schüller, was the second consecutive rally victory for Datsun.
The replica 240Z race car celebrates Nissan's motorsports heritage and the 50th anniversary of the original 240Z's rally triumph. Fans may recognize the restored vintage racer from Nissan's recent "60 Years in 30 Seconds" commercial.
