The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is a groundbreaking addition to the AMG lineup, incorporating cutting-edge technology from Formula 1. It features a two-speed electric motor on the rear axle, providing electric support to the 2.0-litre turbo engine mounted at the front. This combination eliminates turbo lag and delivers instantaneous power and torque, similar to Formula 1 cars. The electric powertrain and the high-performance battery, developed exclusively by AMG, highlight the engineering expertise of the team. With a combined system output of 500 kW (680 hp) and maximum torque of 1020 Nm, the C 63 S sets new performance benchmarks for the C-Class.
The new model series introduces several other notable features. It debuts the fully variable all-wheel drive system AMG Performance 4MATIC+, which includes a Drift Mode for enhanced driving pleasure. Additionally, active rear axle steering comes as standard, a unique offering in this segment. The C 63 S showcases an expressive design with a muscular appearance, distinguished by a longer front end, wider front wings, and a more powerful stance. Notable exterior elements include the AMG-specific radiator grille, large air inlets, and the jet-wing design of the front apron
Inside the C 63 S, the AMG sports seats feature a special upholstery layout and stitching pattern. The interior can be further personalized with a variety of colors and nappa leather options. The second-generation AMG Performance seat, available as an option, offers weight-saving openings for improved ventilation. The MBUX multimedia system includes hybrid-specific displays and functions, such as AMG-specific instrument cluster and multimedia central display, along with AMG-specific display styles in the head-up display.
The heart of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is its AMG-specific E PERFORMANCE hybrid drive. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine is combined with a synchronous electric motor, a high-performance battery, and fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. With a system output of 500 kW (680 hp) and maximum torque of 1020 Nm, the C 63 S delivers impressive performance. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h (270 km/h for the Estate).
The AMG high-performance battery is a result of collaboration between Affalterbach and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. It offers a capacity of 6.1 kWh, continuous output of 70 kW, and peak output of 150 kW for ten seconds. The battery's direct cooling system ensures optimal temperature control for enhanced performance, service life, and safety. Charging can be done via the 3.7 kW on-board AC charger.
The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE offers eight AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes, including an "Electric" mode for all-electric driving, along with various other modes that adjust parameters like response, transmission, steering, and suspension. The AMG Performance steering wheel features twin-spoke design and integrated control buttons for easy access to driving functions, including the regeneration levels of the hybrid drive.
In terms of sound, the C 63 S provides an acoustic experience that varies depending on the driving mode. When driving on electric power, an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System emits a low-frequency AMG sound to alert pedestrians. The vehicle's sound can be further customized by selecting different options via the steering wheel button.
Overall, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE combines the performance and technology of Formula 1 with the comfort and practicality of a road car, offering an exhilarating driving experience with advanced hybrid capabilities.
