The 11th generation of the Honda Accord, a renowned flagship model, has embarked on a new journey after a major facelift last year, following the footsteps of the Civic. While some markets bid farewell to these iconic vehicles, North America and China are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next-generation Honda Accord. The highly anticipated 11th generation Accord has made its debut in China, introducing the remarkable e: PHEV plug-in gasoline-electric powertrain variant, priced at 225,800 yuan.

A Bold Transformation: The 11th-generation Accord has undergone a complete exterior and interior overhaul. One of the most significant changes is the replacement of the previous 2.0-liter turbocharged engine found in the 10th generation with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a 2.0-liter e:HEV gasoline-electric powertrain, marking a major shift. Interestingly, the domestic market’s Accord has diverged from the 2.0-liter e:HEV powertrain, following the footsteps of the CR-V. Instead, it has embraced the 2.0-liter e:PHEV plug-in powertrain, which offers enhanced energy efficiency and greater sustainability. As a result, the Accord e:PHEV becomes an integral part of the dual-power lineup. In terms of appearance, the Accord e:PHEV shares most of its styling elements with the 1.5-liter turbo-powered model, with the addition of a charging opening on the left front fender, adorned with a distinctive blue car logo and white trim.

Unleashing Powerful Performance: The 2.0-liter e:PHEV engine delivers an impressive maximum output of 148 horsepower and 182 Nm of torque. Additionally, an electric motor takes on the primary responsibility for propelling the vehicle, generating 184 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque. While the Accord e:PHEV may not boast the same top speed as its pure fuel counterpart, reaching 186 km/h instead of 174 km/h, it compensates with a remarkable electric range of 82 kilometers (WLTC specification) thanks to the 17.7 kWh battery pack. As a result, the Accord e:PHEV achieves an outstanding average fuel consumption of just 1.54L/100km (WLTC specification)!

Flagship Power in the Chinese Market: The Chinese market is fortunate to have three Accord e:PHEV models available, priced at 225,800, 238,800, and 258,800 yuan. Undoubtedly, the Accord e:PHEV has established itself as the flagship power option for Honda in the domestic market. While the 2.0-liter e:HEV version’s introduction seems less likely, it’s worth noting that Honda’s e:PHEV models have already made their European debut, starting with the majorly modified CR-V e:PHEV. While these models are currently manufactured in Chinese factories (Dongfeng Honda produces the European standard CR-V e:PHEV), the possibility of Honda plug-in electric vehicles venturing into other overseas markets remains uncertain.
