The new BMW 7 Series was designed from the ground up for particularly demanding target groups in a globalized automobile market. This is also reflected in a market-specific drive portfolio with exclusive offers for China as the most important sales region and a diesel model for Europe.
The new generation of luxury sedans from BMW opens up a new dimension in terms of room comfort. Unlike its predecessors, the new BMW 7 Series is only available worldwide in a body variant with a long wheelbase, which guarantees maximum comfort in the rear. Different facets of its character are defined by specific design features and drive variants. The range of the new BMW 7 Series also includes models from the BMW i and BMW M brands, which can be used to intensively emphasize their diverse characteristics, from elegant, modern and sustainable to expressive, sporty and dynamic.
Combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems and all-electric drives are available for the first time for the new BMW 7 Series. The variety in the drive portfolio is based on a newly developed flexible vehicle architecture and is an expression of a globally oriented supply strategy for the new edition of the BMW 7 Series. In this way, the BMW Group takes into account individual customer needs, infrastructure conditions and legal regulations in all relevant automotive markets around the world. Plug-in hybrid models of the new BMW 7 Series are expected to follow in numerous markets at the beginning of 2023. This also includes the first BMW M automobile with an in-line six-cylinder petrol engine and plug-in hybrid drive. In addition, the range in Europe will be supplemented by a model variant with a diesel engine and 48-volt mild hybrid technology immediately after the market launch. Other model variants of the all-electric BMW i7, including the future top model BMW i7 M70 xDrive, will also be available at a later date.

Like all their predecessors, the models of the new BMW 7 Series are produced at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing. The company’s largest production facility in Europe thus combines tradition and future. It is also the BMW Group’s competence center for the production of e-drive components. The highly integrated electric drive and the high-voltage battery of the BMW i7 are also manufactured there. In Dingolfing, vehicles with combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems and fully electric drives roll off the same assembly line. For particularly fascinating acceleration processes, its electric motor generates a temporary boost with an additional output of 30 kW/40 hp. An M-specific design for the exterior and interior, including an exhaust system with characteristic pairs of twin tailpipes with a unique geometry, underscores the performance characteristics of the BMW M automobile with plug-in hybrid technology.
The future top model in the series, the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive (combined power consumption according to WLTP: 26.4 – 21.2 kWh/100 km; CO 2-Emissions: 0 g/km; Information according to NEDC: – ), which will follow later in 2023. Its drive system generates a maximum output of well over 600 hp and a maximum torque of more than 1,000 Nm.
