2022 Suzuki S-Cross Hybrid UK Version
The Suzuki S-Cross has earned high acclaim for its stylish design, compact and easy to manage dimensions and good on-road performance. It is was replaced in late 2021 by an all-new model which takes advantage of Suzuki’s long-established expertise in packaging vehicles above their class with flexibility, an even higher level of safety equipment and the latest technology to meet the diverse needs of both driver and passengers. EXTERIOR DESIGN
The S-Cross expresses Suzuki’s SUV styling heritage and the latest model makes a strong statement featuring a bold and more muscular design that enhances its presence with larger and more angular wheel arches and smooth flowing lines. The front-end design incorporates a raised bonnet line, piano black front grille and new design three LED position headlamps that help portray a high centre of gravity. This theme continues at the rear with larger combination lamps that integrate horizontally with the rear centre garnish to emphasise a sense of width, in addition to roof rails and integrated rear spoiler. This all-new design is complemented with a more spacious and versatile interior and an even higher standard and safety specification than the previous model.
S-Cross is produced at the Magyar Suzuki plant in Hungary which also produces Vitara models for European markets as well as exports of both vehicles around the world.
SPECIFICATION HIGHLIGHTS
A full equipment table for the S-Cross Full Hybrid is listed on the separate PDF document and on the media website.
Standard equipment for Motion is very comprehensive and includes 17-inch painted alloy wheels, three signature LED projector headlamps for low and high beam, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control with speed limiter, keyless entry and start, dual zone auto air conditioning, 7 inch display screen, heated front seats, front and rear parking sensors, rear parking camera and seven airbags.
Moving up to Ultra adds ALLGRIP Select four-wheel drive, 17-inch polished alloy wheels, leather seat upholstery, integrated on-board navigation with 9-inch screen, panoramic sliding sunroof and further driver safety and convenience with the fitment of a 360 view camera.
The S-Cross is available in a total of six different shades of which one is a solid colour and all others are metallic finish.
1.5-LITRE K15C ENGINE
The 1.5-litre (K15C) engine is fitted to both model grades and was intially introduced on the Vitara model earlier in 2022. It has multipoint fuel injection as well as latest design fuel injectors and a high pressure fuel pump.
Fuel is injected at high pressure into the combustion chamber during the air intake stroke which then forms a rich mixture around the spark plug and leaner mixture around the outer edge of the piston. The tumble flow of the fuel is created by utilising a straight intake port and a complex shape piston crown design.
HIGH VOLTAGE FULL HYBRID TECHNOLOGY
The higher-powered Suzuki system consists of a 140V lithium-ion battery and inverter, Motor Generator Unit (known as MGU), a 12V lithium-ion battery as well as a conventional 12V lead-acid battery to power components requiring lower voltage such as lights, instruments and heating / air conditioning.

TWO-SELECTABLE MODE HYBRID SYSTEM
The full Hybrid system has two switchable modes which are Eco and Standard. One switch enables the driver to change between the two modes depending on conditions and also increases the frequency of EV driving. In Standard mode operation, the MGU more frequently assists the petrol engine to allow more spirited driving enjoyment.
MGU
The MGU acts as both a generator and starter motor, is belt driven and assists the petrol engine during vehicle take off.
The high-performance lithium-ion battery stores electrical energy recovered from deceleration and braking and incorporates an idle stop function operated via the Integrated Starter Generator.
Based on engine speed and throttle position, the engine ECU judges when the driver will accelerate and then uses electric motor assist to add additional torque.
One notable feature of the latest hybrid system is the position of the Motor Generator Unit on the output side of the AGS transmission assembly. In doing this, output from the MGU is directly transmitted to the driveshafts to fill the torque gap during shifting and provides a smoother transition from the transmission.
Additionally, the hybrid system efficiently collects kinetic energy and generates electricity by stopping the engine and disengaging the clutch during deceleration which expands the EV driving range.
REDUCTION GEAR
This device is chain driven and reduces the rpm of the MGU to increase torque, which is then directly transmitted to the driveshafts to powerfully drive the wheels.

TRANSMISSION
The S-Cross Full Hybrid is equipped as standard with Auto Gear Shift (AGS) that automatically shifts the manual transmission with gear ratios that are optimised to help provide a good combination of performance and fuel economy. This enables the driver to enjoy both the direct driving experience of a manual gearbox and the shifting ease of an Automatic Transmission. Another key advantage is lower component weight versus a conventional torque converter type Automatic. The transmission also has a manual mode with steering wheel mounted shift paddles.
SUSPENSION
The front suspension is of MacPherson strut design. During initial development of the S-Cross, revised shapes for the lower arms and suspension frame were utilised and improved struts adopted for higher rigidity and to also promote better driving stability. The rear wheel suspension incorporates a beam design (a closed section consisting of a pipe crushed to form a “U” shape) which provides superior rigidity and ride comfort.
BRAKES
S-Cross has ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear. During initial development, weight savings and drag reductions in the calliper design help provide superior braking performance and also assist fuel economy.

CO2 EMISSIONS
CO2 emissions are low thanks to the use of hybrid technology, high tensile steel and other weight saving measures in the body. Weight savings during initial development help the S-Cross remain one of the lightest SUV’s in its class at just 1,308kg with an increase of only 70kg for the Ultra ALLGRIP model.
Four-wheel drive is typically seen as detrimental to fuel economy and emissions performance. By contrast, Suzuki’s ALLGRIP Select system enables CO2 emissions that are remarkably low for a four-wheel drive SUV.
