With the # mg4electric , based on the new MSP platform, the #mg brand enters the important C-segment as a smart choice for motorists ready to embrace an electric lifestyle. With a length of 4,287 mm, a width of 1,836 mm and a height of 1,504 mm, the five-door hatchback is ready to have its say in its competitive segment. The # mg4electricoffers a comfortable and generous interior, with enough space for a family of five, while maintaining elegant and sporty proportions. In addition, the balanced 50:50 weight distribution allows for remarkable handling, direct steering response for optimal engagement management in fast corners. In combination with rear-wheel drive, the new # mg4electric ensures optimum driving pleasure.

The #design of the new battery developed by SAIC Motor, with the particularly low height used by #mg on the new model, has made it possible for the company to contain the height of the # mg4electric . At just 110mm thick, it is also the thinnest battery in its class. The # mg4electric will initially be available with 51 kWh and 64 kWh batteries, which allow a range of 350 and 450 kilometers respectively, according to the WLTP cycle.

The # mg4electric will arrive on the market in several variants including one with all-wheel drive. As for the higher capacity battery, the electric motor transfers a maximum power of 150 kW to the rear axle, respectively 125 kW in the version with a 51 kWh battery. The # mg4electric accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 8 seconds, while the top speed is set at 160 km / h.

The # mg4electric is the first #mg model for Europe based on the MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) developed for battery vehicles by the parent company SAIC Motor. The intelligent and modular architecture offers many advantages in terms of flexibility, space efficiency, safety, driving experience, weight optimization and advanced technologies. Its scalable #design is suitable for making floors with wheelbases from 2,650mm to 3,100mm, which allows various types of chassis to be designed on the same platform for different segments, ranging from hatchback and notchback sedans to SUVs and vans. The scalable modular platform therefore plays an important role in #mg’s growth strategy in Europe.

The magical “ONE PACK” battery system

“ONE PACK” is a battery with an innovative #design . Thanks to the horizontal arrangement of the battery cells, the minimum height of the battery can reach 110 mm, the most compact in the sector, with a substantial optimization of the effective use of space. Together with the redesign of the relative cooling system, the “ONE PACK” battery offers three main advantages: very high integration, very long life and safety thanks to the “zero thermal runaway”.

Zhu Jun, Deputy Chief Engineer of SAIC Motor, says: “In the“ ONE PACK ”battery system developed by SAIC Motor, the projection area of ​​all batteries on the Scalable Modular Platform is the same; the connectors for the other components are also the same. Based on this design concept, it is theoretically possible to easily build batteries from 40 kWh to 150 kWh and meet the energy requirements of the models in the different segments from A0 to D, giving users a flexible and diverse choice. Users can buy a small battery first, and then replace and upgrade it when longer runtime is needed. ”

Ready for advanced technologies

The architecture of the MSP platform and its components are also prepared for the implementation of advanced technologies. For example, the system voltage of the high-efficiency electronic drive unit, which includes #technology8-layer hairpin and a special oil cooling system, in the future it can be increased from 400V to 800V to charge the battery even faster. Additionally, the powertrain is capable of supporting future BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery replacement systems. Integrated Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) enables vehicles to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates throughout their lifecycle. Last but not least, the platform is equipped with Pixel Point Cloud Comprehensive Environment Mapping (PP CEM), necessary for advanced autonomous driving solutions.
