The statements by Antonella Bruno, Head of Jeep Brand in Europe
“Today’s announcement is the result of the success of our current 4xe Plug-In Hybrid portfolio, and is another step towards the complete electrification of our entire range in Europe” he declared Antonella Bruno, Head of Jeep Brand in Europe. “The Jeep Compass and Renegade e-Hybrid SUVs represent a new entry point into our electrified offering, and offer more hybrid options to our customers. This expansion of the range will continue in the summer of this year with the introduction of the 4xe version of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee ”.
e-Hybrid: a further step in the electrification process joins the 4xe plug-in hybrid technology
The new models mark the debut of an advanced hybrid system with a new 4-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine, from the Global Small Engine family, which delivers 130 hp and 240 Nm of maximum torque, combined with a new 7HDT300 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The propulsion system includes an integrated 48-volt 15 kW (20 hp) electric motor that delivers 55 Nm of torque, equivalent to 135 Nm at the gearbox input, which can transmit motion to the wheels even when the internal combustion engine it’s off. The new versions offer up to 15 percent less fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions than previous petrol models.
Thanks to the new hybrid technology, the Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid models represent a new alternative in the two-wheel drive segment. Customers can keep their driving habits intact while enjoying an authentic hybrid driving experience, with all-electric propulsion available at start-up, when traveling at low speeds, at cruising speed and in parking maneuvers.
Designed for hybrid performance
The new 4-cylinder turbo powertrain has been designed to best suit the hybrid application and optimize thermodynamic efficiency and therefore fuel consumption. Among its peculiarities, the functioning according to the Miller cycle, the high compression ratio (12.5: 1), the new cylinder head with compact combustion chamber, double phase variator and specific high turbulence intake ducts stand out. The high-pressure direct injection system, which reaches 350 bar, is also new. The power output is equal to 130 HP, the maximum torque reaches 240 Nm. In addition, a belt starter generator is installed on the petrol engine which ensures rapid and silent transitions during the restart phase ( Silent Start).
The braking system of the new Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid includes the Intelligent Brake System to optimize the ‘autorecharge’ functionality thanks to the mixed regenerative braking which maximizes the recovery of kinetic energy during deceleration to the advantage of efficiency.
EV Features and EV capabilities: the evolution of the driving experience
Thanks to this technology, the new e-Hybrid models ensure a versatile and relaxing driving experience, with numerous features called “EV Features”, including:
- Silent Start makes it possible to start and leave the vehicle without starting the petrol engine, using the “EV” mode;
- Energy Recovery recovers energy that would otherwise be wasted while the car is decelerating (e-Coasting) and braking (Regenerative Braking);
- Boost & Load point shift thanks to “e-Boosting” it is possible to increase the torque at the wheels with the electric motor that supports the petrol engine; furthermore, by calibrating the torque (driving or braking) delivered by the electric motor, it is possible to optimize the operating point of the petrol engine;
- Electric Drive allows the vehicle to drive using the electric motor while the petrol engine is off.
In particular, there are numerous driving situations in which the new Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid can use only electric propulsion (therefore proceed with the petrol engine off), thanks to the numerous “EV capabilities” which include:
- e-Creeping provides the cue with the vehicle speed which can vary between 0 km / h and that equivalent to the minimum of the petrol engine in first gear or in reverse;
- e-Launch allows the vehicle to start with only the help of the electric motor;
- e-Queuing allows you to move through congested traffic following a “stop & go” flow;
- e-Parking simplifies parking maneuvers, making them practical and silent both with the accelerator pedal released, when starting off or when using the automatic parking system as a virtual accelerator pedal.
The EV capabilities are available within the limits of the state of charge of the battery and of the power demand.

“Upland” special series: a concrete commitment to sustainability
The “Upland” special edition was created to emphasize the Jeep brand’s attention to the environment and its commitment to sustainability. Featuring unique aesthetic details and the use of sustainable materials and eco-friendly paints and finishes, this new special edition model will also be available on the Renegade and Compass 4xe Plug-in-Hybrid models.
The “Upland” special series will be immediately recognizable thanks to the new and exclusive “Matter Azure” livery that will “dress” the two cars like a suit in combination with the two-tone black roof and 17 “(Renegade) and 18” alloy wheels “(Compass), in perfect harmony with the themes of sustainability and green. Completing the unique style of the exterior are new MetaKrome bronze finishes, which characterize the lower front grille, the insert on the lower front fascia, the wheel hub caps and the ‘Jeep’, ‘Compass’ and ‘Renegade’ badges.
In the cockpit, the special “Upland” series includes extensive use of recycled materials, which characterize the headliner, the mats with a new dedicated design and the exclusive SEAQUAL ® seats made with recycled plastic taken from the ocean, and which show off unmistakable contrast stitching, the Jeep logo on the front backrests and an organic vinyl insert at the top.
The effect is contemporary and distinctive, thanks to the intertwining weft with a classic Chevron pattern in black base color. The plastic collected from the Mediterranean with the help of fishermen is transformed by SEAQUAL ® into a polyester fiber that can be used as a real fabric. During the weaving phase, the SEAQUAL ®YARN is combined with other ecological fibers that are always natural, recycled or recovered.
On the Renegade, some black plastic cabin trim and components are also derived from recycled materials, and were made using headlamp plastics. The cabin also features MetaKrome bronze painted finishes on several bezels. On the Compass, both the door panels and the dashboard are wrapped in the same material derived from recycled plastics, while a bronze MetaKrome finish, made with eco-friendly paints, enhances the entire profile of the dashboard.
