2021 BMW 320e Touring G21
State-of-the-art energy efficiency, considerable cost savings and iconic driving pleasure are combined in the new entry-level plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series. The new model variants of the BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW Series 3 Touring, are equipped with fourth generation BMW eDrive technology. 2021 BMW 320e Touring (G21).
In this way, the BMW Group continues its unstoppable model offensive in the sector of vehicles with electrified driving systems which will include as many as 25 electrified vehicles by 2023.
Enter the world of electrified driving pleasure.
The plug-in hybrid system of the BMW 320e consists of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with 120 kW / 163 hp and an electric motor with a maximum output of 83 kW / 113. Together they generate system power of up to 150 kW / 204 hp.
The intelligent interplay between the combustion engine and the electric motor offers the brand-specific, hybrid-specific driving pleasure and extraordinary efficiency. The two engines transmit their drive torque to the rear wheels via the 8-speed Steptronic gearbox. In addition to the system’s 150 kW / 204 hp, the system’s power delivery and maximum torque of 350 Nm ensure acceleration and sporty driving characteristics.
The new BMW 320e Sedan accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in 7.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 225 km / h. The BMW 320e Touring in 7.9 seconds and 220 km / h. In purely electric driving mode, the new plug-in hybrid models can reach a top speed of 140 km / h.
High autonomy thanks to state-of-the-art battery cell technology
Thanks to the efficiency of the electric motor and the high storage capacity of the high-voltage battery, the new plug-in hybrid models are ideal for handling much of daily driving, such as commuting between home and work, in electric mode. and therefore without emissions at local level. Developed on the basis of the latest technology and manufactured by the BMW Group, the lithium-ion batteries offer a gross energy content of 12.0 kWh and a capacity of 34 Ah. Electric range values according to the WLTP test cycle are 48 to 57 kilometers for the new BMW 320e Sedan and 46 to 54 kilometers for the new BMW 320e Touring.
On the road, the high-voltage battery is particularly efficient thanks to the recovery of braking energy. With the two standard charging cables, the battery can also be recharged through a conventional household socket, as well as from a wallbox and from public charging stations. The high-voltage battery can be charged with up to 3.7 kW from 0 to 80 percent of its total capacity in 2.6 hours and from zero to 100 percent in 3.6 hours.

Digital services support local zero-emission broadcasting
The BMW Live Cockpit Plus including the Connected Package Professional, now standard in the new plug-in hybrid models, allows drivers to use a variety of digital services, some of which are specially designed for electric mobility. With the BMW eDrive Zone digital services, drivers of BMW plug-in hybrid models receive additional incentives and opportunities to fully exploit the potential of zero-emission mobility locally and thus help reduce CO 2 emissions.and noise pollution in urban centers. As soon as the vehicle enters a central area of the city recognized as an eDrive Zone by means of the Geo-Fencing function via GPS, the plug-in hybrid propulsion control system automatically activates the purely electric driving mode. In addition to the official urban environmental zones in Germany, eDrive Zones also include urban areas in numerous European countries. In total, the BMW eDrive Zone service can already be used in more than 80 European cities. The eDrive Zones of Rome, Milan and Turin are active in Italy.
Increasing the distance traveled in electric mode not only helps optimize efficiency and reduce emissions, but also reduces operating costs for the customer. This is especially true for city traffic, where electricity constantly reaches a level of efficiency higher than that of a petrol or diesel engine.
Versatility for travel and everyday use, wide level of standard equipment
The high-voltage battery of all plug-in hybrid models of the new BMW 3 Series is installed under the rear seat to save space. This means that the trunk volume of the Sedan and Touring models is almost fully usable. It has a capacity of 375 liters in the new BMW 320e Sedan and, in the new BMW 320e Touring, the space can be increased from 410 to 1,420. The maximum permissible trailer load is 1,500 kilograms for BMW 3 Series models.
Load capacity contributes to the captivating versatility of plug-in hybrid models, as does the two-engine driving concept. Thanks to the 40-liter fuel tank, a high range is ensured, underlining the travel suitability of electrified vehicles.
The plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series are also equipped with active pedestrian protection as standard. During electric driving at speeds of up to 30 km / h, an unmistakable sound is generated specifically designed for electrified BMW models that alerts other road users of the approaching car without compromising the acoustic comfort of the passengers.
2021 BMW 320e Touring Interior
Standard equipment includes automatic climate control and auxiliary heating and climate control. The vehicle interior can be pre-heated or pre-cooled as needed. This ensures a pleasant temperature before departure even if the battery has a low charge level. The interior can be pre-cooled or pre-heated remotely via the My BMW App using the smartphone.
From May 2021, new functions of the My BMW App specific to electrified vehicles:
Charging Area – provided specifically for owners of electrified vehicles (with a plug-in hybrid or electric drive system) – in the new My BMW App contains everything you need to know about charging functions. It integrates clear and immediate information on charging activity, charging in progress, Scan & Charge and control of charging and climate settings.
The Drive Recorder feature makes video recordings for you to watch and share
Among the digital functions, the Drive Recorder can be useful for both leisure and small city collisions. This function, linked to the Parking Assistant Plus, uses the cameras of the various driving assistance systems to record footage from different points around the vehicle, before archiving the recordings so that they can be viewed later on the Control Display when the auto is stopped or exported via the USB port.
It is therefore possible to produce videos of the road you are traveling on and then send them to your mobile device and share them. Recordings can be up to 40 seconds in length, which can include the 20 seconds of video saved immediately before activating the Drive Recorder and the next 20 seconds. The Drive Recorder can be started at any time from the iDrive menu.
In the event of a collision, a maximum of 20 seconds before and after the moment of impact are automatically recorded and saved.
