2020 Volkswagen Golf Estate Style
Volkswagen is digitalising space. With a completely new Golf Estate. Get in: in the interior, hardly anything is carried over from before – apart from the perfect ergonomic design. The new Golf Estate is more spacious than ever because it is now significantly longer. Digital touch panels, touch sliders and screens perform the function of conventional buttons and analogue displays. An optional head-up display projects important information onto the windscreen. The increased space and the new digital interior architecture change everything. More space at the rear and more storage capacity mean that class boundaries no longer apply; the new, digital human-machine interfaces catapult the Golf Estate into a new era. The new drive and assist systems are equally progressive. Mild hybrid turbocharged engines with 48 V technology (eTSI) and turbodiesel engines with twin dosing emission control ensure maximum efficiency and minimum emissions.
The new Travel Assist** assist system permits assisted driving over almost the whole speed range and increases comfort particularly on long journeys; a new oncoming vehicle braking when turning function and the also new Car2X warning system significantly improve safety. For the first time, the new IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights** also turn night into day in a Golf Estate.

Initial facts about the new Golf Estate
DNA of an icon. The view from outside: the new exterior design exudes charisma. With its clear-cut lines and LED technology light systems, it creates a visual bridge to the digital world. At the front and on the sides up to the B-pillars, the traditional four-door Golf and the new Golf Estate share the same iconic contours. Further back, the Estate shows its typical uniqueness. Thanks to the pronounced shoulder section, the long roof section above this, which is drawn in slightly in upward direction and slopes down to the rear, and with a coupé-like, sloping rear window, the Golf Estate appears sportier than ever before. The increase in length also rearranges the proportions and makes the Golf Estate appear more elongated and visually flatter. The new generation Estate is 4,633 mm long and now boasts a wheelbase of 2,686 mm (respectively a 349 mm and 66 mm increase compared with its predecessor). The Golf Estate is 1,789 mm wide and 1,455 mm high (without roof rails). In comparison, the current four-door Golf is 4,284 mm long and boasts a wheelbase of 2,619 mm. The height and width of both Golf versions are identical.

More length means more space. The increased exterior length and wheelbase benefit the vehicle interior of the Golf Estate. Five passengers can be accommodated in comfort. The extra space is noticeable most of all in the rear: The maximum legroom increases from 903 to 941 mm. Passengers can stow their luggage in a generously dimensioned luggage compartment: when loaded up to the top edge of the rear seat backrest, it offers 611 litres of stowage space (6 litres more compared with the Golf Estate Mk 7). When loaded up to the roof with integrated luggage net partition up to the front seat backrests, the volume increases to 1,642 litres (an increase of 22 litres). The luggage compartment is equipped with practical bag hooks, fastening rings and lighting. In the right side trim, there is an optional 12 V and a 230 V socket as well as the control for the electrically extending and retracting towing bracket. If both hands are busy holding shopping or luggage, the optional, electrically operated rear bootlid can alternatively be opened via the sensor-controlled luggage compartment opener – by means of a foot gesture across a projection area to the rear of the Golf Estate.
48 V mild hybrid and twin dosing. The new TSI and TDI engines offer pure efficiency. Take the eTSI with 48 V technology and automatic, 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, for example: a 48 V belt-driven starter-alternator, 48 V lithium-ion battery and the TSI engine merge to form a new mild hybrid drive system. The advantages of the eTSI drives include noticeably lower fuel consumption as well as a new level of drive-off performance. The TDI is also another perfect example of this efficiency: here, twin dosing – dual AdBlue® injection with two SCR catalytic converters (Selective Catalytic Reduction) – significantly reduces nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx). The twin dosing TDI engines are among the world’s cleanest turbodiesel engines.
Equipment matrix. Volkswagen has reconfigured the equipment matrix of the Golf Estate: above the basic “Golf” version, there will now be the “Life”, “Style” and “R-Line” equipment lines. The Golf Alltrack will be launched on the market with 4MOTION all-wheel drive as an independent model.
Added equipment. Volkswagen has extended the standard equipment. In future, the features generally on board will include the Lane Assist lane keeping system, the Front Assist with City Emergency Braking System and Pedestrian Monitoring area monitoring system, the new oncoming vehicle braking when turning function, the Driver Alert System, the XDS electronic differential lock, Car2X, the Digital Cockpit Pro (digital instrument displays), the Composition online infotainment system with 8.25-inch touchscreen, the online services and functions of We Connect and We Connect Plus, a new multifunction steering wheel, the Air Care Climatronic automatic air conditioning, the keyless comfort start function Keyless Start, a Bluetooth mobile phone interface, comfort seats, as well as LED headlights and LED tail light clusters including automatic lighting control.
Equipment upgrade**. Regardless of the chosen equipment version: in addition to updating numerous technologies on board the Golf Estate, in many cases it will also be possible to upgrade these functions. In other words, these functions can also be activated later on. For example, it will be possible to have features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Light Assist main-beam control, navigation function, App-Connect (integration of smartphone apps), Wireless App-Connect (wireless integration of iPhone apps), Wi-Fi hotspot and natural voice control activated at a later point in time.

The new Golf Alltrack can take the rough with the smooth in light off-road terrain, is the perfect choice as a towing vehicle (depending on the engine up to 2,000 kg maximum trailer weight; braked with 12 percent gradient) and also impresses as an individual lifestyle model. The new generation of the Golf Alltrack, which was presented for the first time in 2015, adopts all the new technological features of the new Golf Estate.
