Caravelle 6.1 raises standards further. Even when fully loaded with passengers, the Caravelle’s rear space ensures occupants have plenty of space to store their luggage and still have ample room to relax.
As before the Caravelle is available in the UK with two wheelbase options; short and long, and two trim variants; SE and Executive. Like the rest of the Transporter 6.1 range, the Caravelle 6.1 features a raft of updated features along with a subtle new front end design that further reinforces its premium feel. All Caravelle models feature driver and passenger side sliding doors and offer a floor area of 4.3 m2 for short wheelbase and 5.0 m2 for long wheelbase models.
New levels of connectivity
The new Caravelle delivers a new level of connectivity thanks to the introduction of enhanced infotainment systems. Thanks to an online connectivity unit (OCU) with integrated eSIM, they provide access to the new spectrum of We Connect mobile online services and functions. The Executive model is also the first Caravelle to come with a Digital Cockpit as standard – a feature designed to feel premium make life on the road even easier.
New steering system for higher levels of safety
As with all models in the updated Transporter 6.1 range, the Caravelle 6.1 features an all-new electro-mechanical power steering system. This replaces the previous hydraulic system and
comes with numerous advantages. In addition to drawing less power from the engine, its electronic ‘brain’ can communicate with a host of new assistance and safety systems. The extended range of systems includes Lane Assist, Park Assist, a side protection function (warns of obstacles when manoeuvring) and Trailer Assist (simplifies manoeuvring with a trailer). Also included is Cross Wind Assist which automatically stabilises the Caravelle in the event of strong winds. Being offered as an option is the DCC Adaptive Chassis Control system, now for the first time adjustable.
High specification across the range
Practical and versatile, the Caravelle 6.1 SE is equipped with a host of advanced features. The new front end features chrome detailing on the upper grille and a new bumper while at the side there is step illumination and twin power-latching side sliding doors.
Inside, new ‘Circuit’ cloth upholstery finished in Titanium black sets the scene, along with carpet floor covering. Driver and front passenger’s armrests, integrated swivelling reading lights, softfolding grab handles on the roof frame and coat hooks further enhance the Caravelle’s practicality. Among the many new interior features introduced to the SE as part of the 6.1 update is an updated dashboard with black gloss surrounds and chrome trim, LED interior lighting throughout (including boot area) and two USB C ports on the dashboard. In terms of infotainment, the SE is fitted with a new Composition Colour DAB+ radio system with 6.5 inch touchscreen and six speakers. Volkswagen App Connect is also fitted as standard for the first time, along with a multi-function premium colour display. The Caravelle Executive 6.1 ramps up the luxury another notch with an even more comprehensive equipment list. The standard specification includes 17-inch ‘Arcaju’ alloy wheels, heated windscreen and Digital Cockpit with 10.25-inch display. Building on the specification list of the SE, the Executive adds Climatronic three-zone automatic climate control, a multi-function table in the passenger compartment, and heated front seats. The Executive also adds Discover Media navigation system with 8-inch touch-screen and six speakers
and wired and wireless App Connect. Park Assist 3.0 and LED headlights are also new features introduced as part of the update package.
Two TDI engines with optional 4MOTION
The Caravelle 6.1 is available with a 2.0-litre TDI engine with outputs of 150 PS or 199 PS. Both drive through a seven-speed DSG transmission as standard. The SE model short wheelbase is available with a 150 PS engine only, with the SE long wheelbase and Executive (SWB only) models coming with the additional option of a BiTDI 199 PS version. 4MOTION all-wheel drive can also be specified on the 199 PS engine when specified in Executive form.
