2020 Suzuki S-Cross Hybrid
With S-CROSS HYBRID, the Suzuki SUV has expanded in character, in equipment and in performance, to confirm its role in the Hamamatsu range and excellence in the compact crossover sector. A look that reveals a desire for adventure: S-CROSS HYBRID is bold and self-confident with the characteristic design that distinguishes Suzuki’s top-of-the-range SUV: a front grille with an imposing look, bold shapes and superior quality interior fittings. With its 4.30 meters in length, S-CROSS HYBRID is the right choice for those looking a car characterized by the proverbial Suzuki reliability, excellent fuel consumption, high quality driving in maximum comfort and safety also thanks to the famous 4×4 ALLGRIP all-wheel drive.
Full of technology and comfort
S-CROSS HYBRID boasts an exceptional quality of life on board thanks to its 4.30 meters in length, optimally exploited in the interiors, spacious and practical. Added to this is a rich on-board equipment right from the first outfitting. Safety first of all, thanks to the “brake attention” system, standard on the entire range. The system, based on radar, is able to detect the distance from the cars in front, foreseeing any collisions, warning the driver and braking automatically.
The “brake attention” system is integrated with Adaptive Cruise Control, also standard on all set-ups. This is able to maintain the preset safety distance by the driver, without him having to intervene on the brakes. Automatically reports the vehicle at the desired speed as soon as the road becomes clear or as soon as the driver moves into an unoccupied lane.
Safe, comfortable, complete
The standard equipment in terms of comfort (COOL) is also rich:
- dual-zone automatic climate control
- 7 “touchscreen display
- Bluetooth®, Android Auto®, Apple CarPlay® and MirroLink® compatible
- rear camera
- light and rain sensors
- keyless start and keyless entry
- heated and height-adjustable front seats (driver and passenger side)
- front and rear central armrest
- height and depth adjustable steering wheel
- full LED headlights, fog lights
- privacy glass
- 7 airbags
- 17 “alloy wheels
- electrically foldable mirrors
The STARVIEW version also features seats in precious materials, navigator card, front and rear parking sensors and BiColor painting for the rims.
Finally, the glass sunroof is also present on the S-CROSS HYBRID STARVIEW.

A compact and efficient hybrid unit
The S-CROSS HYBRID range is able to best meet the needs of mobility current, thanks to the 1.4 BOOSTERJET engine that offers maximum performance with a turbo optimized to guarantee a high torque value already at low revs. The system Suzuki HYBRID is designed to contain fuel consumption in the most common driving situations and sees the electric motor supporting the thermal motor providing additional torque whenever it detects the driver’s request for a brilliant cue. Their combination ensures extraordinary results in terms of driveability and efficiency.
Suzuki HYBRID technology consists of a 48V electric motor that also performs the functions of alternator and starter motor, a lithium-ion battery and a 48-12V converter. The entire system is characterized by a weight of only 45kg and is particularly compact, with all the elements integrated directly into the thermal engine block or positioned under the front seats, in order to guarantee unchanged spaces for passengers and luggage.
The Suzuki HYBRID system guarantees an overall increase in torque and an optimization of the same in the transitional phases. When starting and accelerating, for example, the electric motor maximizes its intervention by supporting the turbine until it does not has reached the maximum of its efficiency. Similarly, the electric motor intervenes if the driver acts decisively on the accelerator. This allows to minimize the load on the combustion engine, reducing consumption, and to provide a more driving feeling direct.
Hamamatsu engineers also studied a third function of the electric motor. In the deceleration phase, the latter is in fact able to autonomously manage the idle rotation of the thermal engine, without petrol being introduced. In this mode, in the slowdown phase, the car eliminates consumption.
S-CROSS HYBRID is now available with a six-speed automatic gearbox, which optimally manages the generous 235Nm torque delivered by the four-cylinder engine 1.4 Boosterjet turbocharger (K14D). The system has a low total weight of just 74.9 kg, and boasts a variety of gear ratios it develops over an interval comparable to that of a CVT change. The 6A / T automatic transmission is the latest evolution of a type of proven gearboxes and includes, in addition to the six normal gears plus reverse, also a manual mode, which allows you to change gears through the use of practical paddles on the steering wheel. A particular management of the gearbox in 1M, avoids the sliding of the internal clutch linked to this ratio and also a reduced gear ratio, which blocks the gearbox in first gear gear to allow you to increase the engine brake to deal with the most demanding situations and the steepest slopes.
The torque converter is of the three-element type and is, one level and two phases, equipped with an automatically controlled lock-up mechanism. The gear change device is consisting of a Ravigneaux-type planetary gear train, 3 clutches and multiple disc brakes, a band brake and a one-way clutch, all managed by a valve body assembly placed inside the gearbox itself which also includes the control solenoid valve line pressure (linear solenoid valve). This allows you to get changed fluid and high efficiency in the transmission of motion. The control device of the hydraulic pressure is composed of the valve body group, the control solenoid valve line pressure (linear solenoid valve), 4 pressure control solenoid valves (linear solenoid valve), by the TCC solenoid valve (linear solenoid valve), by the solenoid valve of the electromagnetic oil pump (linear solenoid valve) and 2 solenoid valves of gear shift.
The optimum operating pressure, in accordance with the engine torque, is generated from the line pressure control solenoid valve based on signals from the TCM. This makes it possible to manage the operating pressure with extreme precision, in accordance with the engine power and operating conditions, so as to obtain smooth changes and high efficiency in the transmission of motion. During the automatic engine stop operation, a specific hydraulic circuit equipped with an electromagnetic pump opens the forward clutch before the automatic restart, to engage the clutch smoothly when restarting, thus reducing the backlash. (linear solenoid valve), by the TCC solenoid valve (linear solenoid valve), by the solenoid valve of the electromagnetic oil pump (linear solenoid valve) and 2 solenoid valves of gear shift.

Four driving modes with 4×4 ALLGRIP technology
4×4 ALLGRIP technology offers four driver-selectable driving modes, that allow you to face any terrain and situation: on S-CROSS HYBRID the system ALLGRIP is also characterized by the Feedforward function: it is a strategy predictive that, based on the behavior of the car and the driving parameters (accelerator, steering, speed) is able to predict the possibility of skidding of the guide. In this circumstance the 4×4 ALLGRIP system transmits more torque to the rear wheels before loss of grip occurs.
The four selectable driving modes offered by the ALLGRIP system are:
Auto mode
This mode prioritizes fuel economy under driving conditions normal. The system uses two-wheel drive by default, switching to integral traction in case of loss of adhesion.
Sport mode
Sport mode is optimal for winding roads. The ALLGRIP system exploits al maximum four-wheel drive according to the accelerator input. Low speed and ai intermediate engine speeds, the system varies the response characteristics of the accelerator (engine torque) to optimize engine performance and cornering performance.
Snow mode
Snow mode is optimal for slippery, snowy, unpaved surfaces and more. The ALLGRIP system uses four wheel drive by default, optimizing traction control based on steering and throttle inputs, so as to increase grip and stability on low-friction surfaces.

Lock mode
Lock mode is useful, for example, to untangle the car from snow, mud or dirt sand. It provides for a limited slip of the differentials, transferring the torque to the only tires in grip. In combination with the TCS (traction control system) it allows excellent traction even on surfaces with poor grip.
