Rüsselsheim.  Start of sales for the new Opel Insignia! From now on, customers can order the Opel flagship as a Grand Sport limousine, Sports Tourer estate and particularly dynamic GSi. For as little as €31.790 (all prices RRP including VAT in Germany), the Insignia comes with air conditioning and the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-compatible Multimedia Radio infotainment system including colour touchscreen. LED headlights provide optimum vision in the dark. Assistance systems such as front collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist further increase the safety of passengers and road users.

The powertrain line-up begins with the 90kW (122hp) 1.5-litre turbo diesel (fuel consumption, five-door, NEDC1: 4.8 l/100km urban; 3.5 l/100km extra-urban; 4.0 l/100km, 105 g/km CO2 combined). Prices for the estate version with identical equipment and engine start at €32.790.

“The new Opel Insignia looks fantastic and thanks to the new engine generation it is also highly efficient”, said Xavier Duchemin, Managing Director Sales, Aftersales and Marketing. “Our flagship offers numerous class-leading technologies, from adaptive IntelliLux LED® Pixel Light to all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. Every customer will find an Insignia that perfectly suits their very own needs.”

The range of trims extends from Insignia Edition and Elegance to GS Line and Ultimate, as well as the fully equipped, sporty GS Line Plus. Enthusiasts will opt for the new Insignia GSi with 169kW (230hp) 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine and nine-speed automatic transmission (fuel consumption, limousine NEDC1: 8.9 l/100km urban, 5.8 l/100km extra-urban, 6.9 l/100km, 161 g/km CO2 combined). The Insignia GSi also features electro-hydraulic brake booster, FlexRide mechatronic suspension and Twinster four-wheel drive with torque vectoring. In addition, there is the new adaptive IntelliLux LED® Pixel Light, which has 168 LED elements – 84 per headlamp! Pixel Light puts the Insignia at the top of the class for midsize cars from volume brands and is standard from Elegance upwards.

Advanced driver assistance and infotainment systems

The Opel Insignia offers a wide range of assistance and infotainment systems. A new digital rear view camera improves rearward vision. Safety when reversing out of parking spaces can be further increased by the optional rear cross traffic alert. Additional assistance systems include forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, side blind zone alert, adaptive cruise control with emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, advanced park assist and head-up display. Adaptive cruise control maintains the gap to the vehicle ahead through automatic braking and acceleration.

The portfolio of infotainment systems compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto extend from Multimedia Radio and Multimedia Navi to Multimedia Navi Pro. The top-of-the-line unit features numerous Connected Navigation services such as “Trip & Drive Management” and “LIVE Navigation”, which provides online traffic information in real time, allowing delays to be detected quickly and avoided. Compatible smartphones can charge wirelessly. When e-Call is on-board, an emergency call is automatically sent if the seatbelt tensioners or airbags are deployed. Alternatively, help can be actively summoned in seconds by simply pressing the red button.

State-of-the-art powertrains for maximum fun-to-drive

All three and four-cylinder engines belong to a new generation of state-of-the-art power units. The 1.5-liter diesel with 90kW (122hp) forms the basis (see table below for all consumption figures) at start of sales, another entry-level petrol engine will follow in the coming months. Compared to its predecessor, NEDC1 fuel consumption is up to 18 percent lower. The three-cylinder units are up to 50 kilograms lighter than their predecessors in the previous model. Above them in the Insignia range come 2.0 petrol engines with 147kW (200hp) and 169kW (230hp) in the GSi. The 2.0-liter petrol units are also the first Opel engines with cylinder deactivation. Unless the driver needs high power, the variable camshaft control deactivates two cylinders and lowers fuel consumption. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel (127kW/174hp) completes the portfolio.

New low-friction gearboxes further reduce fuel consumption and at the same time increase comfort. Insignia customers can choose from a six-speed manual gearbox, an eight or nine-speed automatic and a particularly economical, stepless transmission, which will be available in the course of the year.
