1991 Ares Design Porsche 964

It certainly cannot be said that the task to which the Porsche 964 Turbo was called upon to answer at the time of its presentation in 1991 was a simple one: this new generation of the iconic Stuttgart sports car took up the baton of the first 911 to exhibit the badge. Turbo on the rear hood, the legendary 930 – a car that changed the landscape of sporty GTs forever. 

At first greeted with skepticism by enthusiasts, the Porsche 964 Turbo has over time been able to carve out an important space in the heart of them, also thanks to its unforgettable line, dominated by the large whale tail wing.

In dedicating itself to the latest one-off car project, ARES has chosen the 911 964 Turbo as the basis, interpreting and modifying it, both in terms of aesthetics and mechanics, to give it the typical style of the creations of the Italian coachbuilder.

ARES is no stranger to creations of this type, i.e. interventions aimed at giving a new life to classic models of the past: in 2018 the atelier created a Corvette C2 Sting Ray, equipped with the engine of the 2017 Corvette C7.

On the Porsche 964 Turbo, the ARES designers intervened by modifying the design of the tail, installing a new bonnet with ducktail spoiler and new alloy wheels with a design that harks back to the Fuchs models – details made famous by the famous 911 Carrera RS 2.7 of the years Seventy.

Internally, the Modenese artisans have created a new upholstery in leather and tartan fabric. This is decorated with a houndstooth motif, a reference to the racing models of the past of the German house that ARES had already used on the Porsche 911 Targa GT3. Particular attention was also paid to the interface between car and driver: there are in fact new indicators and a new PCCM infotainment system, specifically designed for classic Porsches.

From the point of view of performance, although the 964 Turbo has never lacked numbers, ARES has intervened on the 3.6-liter boxer six-cylinder, which can now breathe better thanks to a more performing turbine and intercooler, reaching maximum power of 425 hp.
