Exactly 40 years after its presentation at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari is announcing the GTO Legacy Tour 2024. This exclusive event celebrates the 40th anniversary of the iconic 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO. The tour, organized for owners of Ferrari's first-ever supercar, will take place in the picturesque Italian Dolomites from October 1st to 5th, 2024.

Legacy Tour 2024

The Ferrari GTO event marks the second edition of the Legacy Tour, following the F40-themed event in 2023. The previous tour featured 39 teams exploring a route from Forte dei Marmi through the Apuan Alps and Tuscan countryside to Maranello. In 2024, the tour will begin in Val Rendena, with the impressive Dolomites serving as the backdrop until the final day of driving when participants arrive in Maranello.

Tour Highlights

Upon arrival at the Prancing Horse headquarters, the GTOs will be showcased and Ferrari Classiche’s experts, along with members of the original GTO development team, will share insights into the car's history. The event will culminate with a parade at the Fiorano Circuit.

Ferrari GTO

The Ferrari GTO debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1984. Its V8 turbo engine, Pininfarina design, and advanced composite bodywork were met with widespread acclaim. The GTO was the first Ferrari to feature a longitudinally mounted V8 with twin turbos. The 2.8-liter capacity, combined with eight cylinders, earned it the unofficial 288 moniker, while its official name references the legendary 250 GTO of the early 1960s.

Production and Legacy

Originally, Ferrari planned to produce just the 200 units required for Group B racing homologation. However, rule changes led Ferrari to withdraw from the championship. Despite this, the GTO has earned its place in history as Ferrari’s first supercar, followed by the F40, F50, Enzo Ferrari, and LaFerrari. Due to its popularity, production extended to 272 units.
