Originally a barn find, the Celica’s overhaul includes bare-metal bodywork and a rebuilt 18R-G engine, now running 2.2 liters with dual Mikuni PHH carburetors, producing 170hp near 8000rpm.
Upgrades to the Celica’s suspension include JRZ dampers, Techno Toy Tuning spindles, and a four-link rear suspension, enhancing performance and reliability.
Wider wheels and custom fender flares on the Celica enhance road presence, while TRD-inspired fender flares and a rear wing further complement the design.

1972 Toyota Celica
The 1972 Toyota Celica, displayed beside the Datsun 240Z, is owned by Formula DRIFT team manager and engineer Stephan Papadakis. This vehicle restoration project, featured widely across his social media channels, has drawn significant attention online. Found in an abandoned condition after sitting for more than 20 years, the Celica underwent a complete overhaul as part of Papadakis’s passion project. The restoration included bare-metal bodywork refinements, and its rare 18R-G four-cylinder, twin-cam engine was rebuilt and expanded to 2.2 liters, utilizing ENEOS motor oil for optimal performance. The engine now features dual 44 Mikuni PHH side-draft carburetors and operates with a Link ECU, managed by a motorsport-grade wiring harness to ensure reliability. Capable of producing 170hp near its 8000rpm limit, the Celica has four-piston Wilwood brakes on both front and rear axles for enhanced stopping power.
Papadakis also upgraded the suspension with JRZ dampers, Techno Toy Tuning front spindles and tension rods, Annex Suspension caster and camber plates, a four-link rear setup, and a Panhard bar. To accommodate wider wheels and tires, Toy Garage produced TRD-style fender flares, a lip spoiler, and a rear wing, emphasizing the Celica’s road presence and performance capabilities. The Celica's new fenders house custom 15-inch three-piece wheels, inspired by Tom’s heritage design.
