1959 Maserati 3500 GT

Touring Superleggera, renowned for its expertise in Italian coachbuilding, will present a showcase of automotive craftsmanship at Retromobile 2025, Stand K-068, Hall 1, from February 5 to February 9. This year’s display highlights a fully restored 1959 Maserati 3500 GT alongside an unrestored 1961 Maserati 3500 GT barn-find example. The pairing illustrates the transformation of a classic Grand Tourer originally designed by Touring Superleggera, a model that set the standard for luxury sports coupes in its era. 

In addition to the restored Maserati 3500 GT, attendees can view the Superleggera Veloce12, Touring’s latest limited-series V12 coupe. Finished in a striking Azzurro Cielo paint, this naturally aspirated V12 model was first introduced at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in California.

Maserati 3500 GT: A Milestone in Grand Touring History

Introduced in 1957, the Maserati 3500 GT was Maserati’s first mass-produced road car, designed by Touring Superleggera with a focus on lightweight construction and aerodynamic efficiency. Featuring aluminum body panels crafted using the signature Superleggera technique, this model merged Maserati’s racing heritage with the refinement expected of a high-performance Grand Tourer.

The 1959 Maserati 3500 GT showcased at Retromobile has undergone a meticulous restoration at Touring Superleggera’s Milanese workshop. Every aspect of the restoration remains true to the original specifications, ensuring historical accuracy. The car’s engine and mechanical systems were rebuilt by Candini Classiche, a specialist known for preserving Maserati’s heritage. The restoration process has been officially recognized with Maserati Classiche Certification, affirming its authenticity and historical significance.

Few classic cars have a history as distinguished as this particular 1959 Maserati 3500 GT, known as the “Dodge” Maserati due to its original ownership. Delivered from Maserati’s Italian factory on March 18, 1959, the car was initially sold through Allinger Motors in Palo Alto, California. Its first owner, Horace Elgin Dodge III, was a member of the legendary Dodge family, further adding to its historical significance.

For decades, the car remained within the Dodge family, passing through generations before eventually returning to Europe. Over time, it changed hands among collectors who recognized its historical importance, culminating in its return to Touring Superleggera’s workshop for a full restoration. The Maserati 3500 GT’s journey underscores its status as a symbol of Italian automotive excellence and enduring craftsmanship.

Superleggera Veloce12: Touring’s Latest V12 Grand Tourer

Retromobile 2025 also provides visitors an opportunity to explore the Superleggera Veloce12, a limited-series V12 coupe that embodies the essence of Italian design and performance. Debuting at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in August 2024, this model reflects Touring Superleggera’s commitment to merging historical influences with modern engineering.

The Superleggera Veloce12 is finished in Azzurro Cielo, a color inspired by classic Touring models such as the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B Lungo. This distinct shade of blue emphasizes the vehicle’s sculpted bodywork, blending light and shadow to enhance its visual appeal. The updated Touring Superleggera badge, inspired by the marque’s 1930s emblem, further connects the Veloce12 to its historic predecessors.

At its core, the Superleggera Veloce12 features a naturally aspirated front-mounted 5.5-liter V12 engine, delivering 503 horsepower.
