2026 BMW Concept 7 Protection

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2026 BMW Concept 7 Protection introduces a discreet armored luxury sedan designed to protect against selected handgun threats, including 9×19 mm and .44 Magnum ammunition.

  • Based on the BMW M760e xDrive, the concept uses a 3.0 liter inline six plug-in hybrid system producing 612 hp and 800 Nm of torque, paired with all wheel drive.

  • Its interior features Smoke White Merino leather, Alcantara trim, additional privacy equipment and a new BMW Individual rear console with a foldable table and cool box.

BMW Expands Its Armored Luxury Sedan Lineup

The 2026 BMW Concept 7 Protection has been introduced as a new approach to armored luxury transportation, aimed at customers who need additional security without moving to a heavily protected vehicle.

Based on the BMW 7 Series Sedan, the concept is intended for private customers, businesses and organizations facing everyday or unpredictable security risks.

Unlike the existing BMW 7 Series Protection, which offers VR9 certification and optional VPAM 10 protection, the new concept targets a lower threat category.

The intention is to retain the familiar appearance, comfort and driving characteristics of a regular 7 Series while incorporating additional protection into the vehicle structure.

Familiar 7 Series Styling With Concealed Protection

From the outside, the Concept 7 Protection retains the appearance of BMW's luxury sedan. Its protection equipment is designed to remain largely hidden, without changing the vehicle's overall character.

Much of the engineering work is beneath the visible surfaces.

The passenger compartment incorporates thicker ballistic glass, while the doors contain protective sections made from ballistic steel and fiber reinforced composites.

These materials also protect the areas where doors, windows and body panels meet.

Additional armor is concealed around the rear quarter windows, roof, rear bulkhead and passenger compartment wall.

The panoramic glass roof remains visible externally, although a protective layer underneath requires its sunblind to stay permanently closed.

612 HP Plug In Hybrid With BMW xDrive

The concept uses technology from the BMW M760e xDrive, including its 3.0 liter turbocharged inline six petrol engine and integrated electric motor.

The combined system produces 450 kW, or 612 hp, with maximum torque reaching 800 Nm.

Power is delivered through an eight speed Steptronic transmission and BMW's xDrive all wheel drive system.

BMW has recalibrated the chassis, braking system, powertrain and driver assistance features to accommodate the additional protective equipment.

The manufacturer has not disclosed the concept's weight, acceleration figures or driving range.

Rear Passenger Comfort With New BMW Individual Console

Inside, the Concept 7 Protection maintains the 7 Series' luxury focused layout.

Smoke White BMW Individual Merino leather is paired with Alcantara trim and an Anthracite Alcantara headlining.

Sun protection glazing, electronic sunblinds and a digital rearview mirror support privacy and visibility.

A new BMW Individual rear console makes its debut here, incorporating a folding table, wireless charging tray and integrated cool box.

BMW plans to make this console available in 7 Series models during the second half of 2027.

Ballistic Protection and Market Positioning

The concept complies with the new BayB standard, addressing selected handgun threats rather than the higher level ballistic and blast protection available in BMW's existing security vehicles.

Additional equipment includes an external communication intercom, attack alarm system and electrically operated side windows with restricted opening.

BMW is initially considering selected European markets, positioning the concept below the 7 Series Protection and X5 Protection VR6 within its broader armored vehicle portfolio.
