Nissan’s Iconic Hatchback Goes Electric – Here’s What You Need to Know
The 2026 Nissan Micra is all-electric, sharing the AmpR Small platform with the Renault 5 E-Tech.
There are two battery options: 40 kWh (300 km range) and 52 kWh (400 km range), with a rumored high-performance Nismo model.
Styled at Nissan's UK studio, designed with European consumers in mind, featuring aggressive, motorsport-influenced styling.
Nissan officially revealed the all-new 2026 Nissan Micra EV, a fully electric replacement for its legendary hatchback. Tailored to European consumers, the Micra EV marries retro aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, promising an intriguing addition to the expanding electric car market.
A New Approach to Design
Drawing inspiration from the aggressive Concept 20-23, the new Nissan Micra inherits important design cues from Nissan's motorsport-inspired EV concept. The front end boasts characteristic "Puppy-Dog Headlights", an LED strip linking the round DRLs, and a sharp, flat bonnet that lends the vehicle a dynamic presence. Gloss-black crossover-style body cladding provides a tough edge, while the floating roof effect gives it a contemporary look. Unlike previous generations, this Nissan electric vehicle eliminates a rear spoiler in favor of aerodynamics over rugged looks.
Conceived on a Proven Platform
Under the hood, the 2026 Micra EV uses the AmpR Small (CMF-BEV) platform, shared with the Renault 5 E-Tech. This allows Nissan to inherit Renault's expertise in compact EVs, ensuring both efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Micra EV will be produced in France, alongside its Renault sibling, affirming the alliance's pledge to electric mobility in Europe.
Powertrain and Performance
While Nissan hasn’t released official specs, the Micra EV is expected to mirror the Renault 5 E-Tech:
Battery Options | Motor Power | Estimated Range (WLTP) |
---|---|---|
40 kWh | 94 hp | 300 km (186 miles) |
52 kWh | 150 hp | 400 km (248 miles) |
Additionally, a high-performance Nismo version could be on the cards, potentially borrowing the 218 hp powertrain from the Alpine A290, promising a thrilling 0-100 km/h time of just 6.4 seconds.
Nissan's Growing EV Lineup
Nissan is accelerating its European EV portfolio, with the Micra EV joining the ranks of the Ariya and the all-new Leaf crossover. A battery-only Nissan Juke is also due in 2026, based on the extreme Hyper Punk concept.
With a blend of heritage, tech, and performance, the 2026 Micra EV looks to be one of the decade's most thrilling small electric vehicles. Stay tuned for further updates as Nissan shares more information!
